I got Peacocks in the tank

So I got tired of seeing my 125 gallon being mostly empty. Just had three Jewel Cichlids and couple of Synodontis Angelicus. I went and got 5 O.B. Peacocks. They were cheap and they got color. One of them was a female who was holding so we'll see what she spits out.

I also got a Red Fin Boreyi, a half a dozen Auratus and 5 Johannii for the action. Watching those little Aurutus swiming so fast in circles chasing one and other is amusing.

So mainly fish originated out of Lake Malawi this time. The last cichlid tank was Lake Tanganyika. It was disapointing. They hid or killed each other and they couldn't share 125 gallons of water and about 100 pounds of rock. This was a real prison style tank.

Did the Victorian back in the '90's so I didn't need to visit that. Never did Malawian so I went there. I'll get more cheap Mbunas and $10 Peacocks.

Cichlids are some crazy warm water fish (tank wreckers). There colors will stay bright with the right food and temperature.

I used to have fish tanks before I started traveling and working out of town. My first marine tank (salt water) I managed to kill every known species of fish known to man that lived on a reef in the ocean before I finally figured out how to get it right. [:0] It was a whole lot more expensive than loosing a few goldfish.

I set up a small salt water tank in my office at work one time. A lot of people had never seen marine fish up close in person and were amazed. The Clownfish and an Anemone like the ones below seemed to be everyone's favorite and people would come by my office all the time just to look at them.

No pics. Only Japo who doesn't take pics [:D].

I did the South/Central American Cichlids back in the '90's got tired of having one fish in a 100 gallon tank. The last one was a Dovii pure eater and a killer. Sold him to some guy I knew for $50 and that was the last time I heard from either of them.

Picked up 5 small Red Peacocks today. At $8.00 a pop and the fifth one was free I couldn't have done wrong. Also got some Kenniis The boys are to turn yellow but if there are no boys the dominant femal will take the male colors. Even in the fish world there some butch water retention structure.

Had my current resident an African Lungfish in the 100 gallon hop out one night. Being an air breather it was fine when I found it in the morning. That boy does love chicken livers.

The reef/marine tank was okay. I did the Jeaubert Plenum method when it was newest and the greatest to the hobby. I think I broke even when I sold off most of the live rock and power compact lighting 10 years back.

So knowing what I know I went for the cheap, active and colorful. I think I'll get 15/20 blue peacock females to interbreed with what I have. It'll be fun to see all kinds of rainbow peacocks in that brood factory.

Oscars were the smartest fish I ever owned. I believe that if they could have gotten out of the tank they would have followed me into the kitchen. They were more aware of their surroundings than any other fish too. Although sometimes it was a little creepy when they'd follow you with their eyes as you walked through the room.

I had a neighbor, years ago that had 2 Oscars big enough to make a sandwich each,in his "coffee table" aquarium. He fed them balls of ground beef.Either one would jump 18" or more, out of the tank,to grab a hunk...
They seemed freaky smart. For a fish.He got them out of a drainage canal as minnows, when they got too damn big,he cut them loose in a pond nearby.Hope they figured out how to feed themselves.

Naaa. The trick is to over stuff the tank so no one fish is the wipping boy. Fish got really short term memory. If you have lots of these fish if one starts to chase one by the time they get 5 feet across they're either wondering "why was I chasing him" or "damn I lost him in this cloud of other fish".

I got like 45 in there right now and everyone is doing fine (I'm thinking another 10 or 15?). No one has fins or body damage. I picked up 5 Strawberry Peacocks, 5 mixed bag of Peacocks (one is a Sunshine and the other 4??? [:D]). They're doing fine. Maybe a little confused that they're in a big * tank with all kinds of colorful neighbors.

If they breed I get to play "who's your daddy [:D]". Since I ain't selling and no way am I going to fish out mothers out of the 125. They're just color, action and amusement to me. Also they're mostly vegitable munchers I have to shop for veg. Damn fish are making me eat more healthy [:D]. First time in years I bought spinach. Blanched some and watched my fish tear it up while I ate the bulk of the left overs.
