8MM Carcano Calvary Carbine??

Was at a gunshow in Greenwood MS today and saw the above. I have never heard of such an animal. Rifle was complete with the underfolding bayonet and clearly marked 7.9 on the rear sight where most Carcano are marked.

What is going on here? Did the Germans take the time to rework Carcanos after the Italians quit the war?

I sort of wanted it but the $300 price was a killer.

Do any of you have any kind of history on Carcanos being converted to 8MM/ Thanks, Tom

I've never heard of that going on. Even if it was a custom job done here in the US it might make a nice shooter. Huge recoil for sure. Mighty loud as well.

Yes, later in the war they modified 38s as well as carbines to 8mm. Calvary carbines are scarce. As far as I know, the Italians marked the cartridge used on all the barrels in front of the action.

"Calvary" is the name of the place where Jesus was crucified.

    "Cavalry" is mounted soldiers.

Your rifle would be unique if it were a "Calvary" conversion.

They mix them up on the History channel all the time too. [;)]
R Lee Ermey is pretty famous for it.

I feel so humble. I thought I knew everything and now get blown away! I now must remove my cavary from calvary before Moses builds his ark and washes us all away. Tom

10 years ago these were $100. guns. There was almost 0 interest in Italian military arms.

Desperation led the Germans to convert Carcano(s) to 8x57. DON'T SHOOT IT.

The Carcano is said to be the second strongest of the common military bolt actions. It's probably safe.

The Germans supplied the Italian units serving alongside the Afrika Korps and their weapons were 7.92x57.
