quote:PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon transportation officials intend to seek federal approval for interstate tolls.
The Oregonian reports the tolls would fund I-5 work.
Oregon Department of Transportation Assistant Director Travis Brouwer said officials believe there will be open spots in the government's FAST Act program and they are researching next steps.
No openings have been confirmed by the Federal Highway Administration or the program's manager.
President Donald Trump has yet to fill posts in the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Brouwer said the people who fill these open jobs would be crucial to any decisions about tolling.
He said it would still take years to put tolls in place if federal approval is secured.

The Colorado Transportation Department is about half the size of ODOT.
Oregon politicians will never ask what all those public employee drones do all day...other than suck up funds and oxygen.

Those who live out of state and commute to awregone already pay state income tax and get NOTHING for it, except a crappy commute on lousy roads.

I flew over Oregon once in 1970 coming home from nam.[:)]
It was an awesome place back then. We got an influx of stupid from somewhere and the whole damn place is going to hell in a hand-basket now.
try entering chicago, you pay going in, you pay going out and several times
They need drug tokens or 9mm bullets as money.

I drove threw Chicago a few years ago and missed one of the tolls. I realized I wasn't going to be able to get over in time and drove through the I-Pass(or whatever it's called) lanes. I went online and paid the toll a few days later.

And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
The interstates were built with federal funds when Eisenhower was president. I really don't know how the east gets away with charging tolls on interstates, but I'm guessing this will not fare well in the west.
Well, Hawaii has "interstate" highways so I suppose anything's possible.

I-16 only goes from Macon Georgia to to Savannah. (With a huge time warp along the way. That drive seems like it takes 18 hours...)
