The temp is dropping and I'm warmer

Recently I replaced all my windows and doors, added new insulation and vapor barrier, and installed new siding. We are looking at windchills in the -30s over the next few days and I can tell huge differences in how snug my place is compared to what it used to be. I can't wait to see my gas bill for the winter months. Next year I'll replace the furnace and water heater and probably add a supplemental heat source like a pellet stove or wood burner.

    That is awesome![8D]

I am hoping we can get our windows done by next winter. We did one door and one window on a very small budget this summer. Both in the same area and you can tell a HUGE difference in that part of the house.

I would guess that with what you save on your heating bill, they will be paid off in no time. Just that initial investment that gets ya.

That's why I'm happy. The colder it gets, the faster the payoff. BTW this cold is headed your way.[:D]

I've got four more windows to replace. The gas bill has droped by $30.00 a month, and it is so quiet inside the house.

I know. I can feel it coming! [:0]

I heard 20-30 below with windchill here in the morning. Can't complain too much though with this extremely mild winter we have had so far.

I laugh when i drive past houses with plastic over windows. I grew up in south dakota and now live in north dakota. i'm use to the cold weather here. The company i work for hires alot of out of staters every year and i have to laugh at how they handel the weather up here. We get around +100 in summer and - 70 in winter ( with wind chill). Hell tommarow there talking - 15 to -20 with wind chills in the -35 to -50

    Funny to you maybe!
I thought I was used to cold weather, that is, until I spent a winter working in Grand Forks.
The first few weeks, I really thought I was going to die!!
I think I was even cold when taking a steamy shower after work.
It was good that nearly every restaurant had delivery service, because after I got back to the motel at night, there was no way I was going outside until the next morning!
I did get used to it though.
One super cold night, we went to a seafood place in Grand Forks Minnesota.
The parking lot was just full of snowmobiles. I thought these people are crazy.
Inside I asked a guy at the bar, how long this type of weather lasts.
He replied, "well, clear through March, if we are lucky"
Then I KNEW that they were crazy!!

I remember doing a plumbing rough in on a 48 unit apt. building in MN in '96. The windows and doors ended up back ordered so the structure was open to the wind while we worked and we were not going to wait so we worked away. Temp varied from -20's to -40's F with a nice stiff breeze. When they finally got the windows in and brought the temp heat online the pipe grew and all of our stool flanges ended up about 3" off the floor. The fire sprinkler guy with his orange pipe ran his mains down the hallways and they grew so much they coiled up into s'ss from wall to wall. Took us 2 days to cut out/repair the pipe but we did stay ahead of schedule. I don't work that hard anymore.
