The shooter didn't have to fly to Rwanda or cross a warlord land to pop Silverback. Kind a wonder if zoos will have SWAT now?

Personally I figure there are more kids than gorillas so next time I say let the kid take their chances. Dumb enough to get in to that kind a situation they can figure out a way out on their own.

As for this kid, he better cure cancer. Not the easy cancer that kills a few folks but the ones that kill bunches.

I think the parents should have to pay for the gorilla. Their "Little Darling" was not under due control when he made his way into the enclosure. The zoo was derelict in the security of the place, too.

One has to wonder, do they not have a tranquilizer gun at the zoo?

I'm sure they do, but how much damage could the ape do before it took effect

I'm betting just a basic Remington 700 chambered in 308 Winchester.

Forgot about the old deer slug. That would make him take a dirt nap. Heard the Zoo has raised the amount to get in. Don't tell bigcitybill he might not like it.

I have a tranquilizer/dart gun and the meds to load the dart to easily put him out (1cc per hundred pounds). The problem you run into is it takes 10/15 minutes to fully work. During that time the kid would probably be dead.

As Mr. Trent said- unlike what you may have seen on Wild Kingdom, tranquilizer darts do NOT have instant effect. Concern was for harm the animal would cause while the drug was taking effect- and if darting the animal would worsen the situation.

Have use M99 taking down a bull elk that had gotten electrical wires wrapped in antlers. Took a long time to get him wobbly on his feet.

Obviously the parents didn't really love the kid or thought he wouldn't amount to much since they themselves didn't go in the pit. Or they were democrats and figure someone else would save him or they'll just breed another one.

As for welcome to California bit it's more like welcome to the new America.

That is pretty much what the head keeper of the Zoo said. He said they discussed tranquilizing him, but feared it would agitate him and would have taken too long to put him out.

Maybe the parent couldn't fit through the fence that the kid made it through?

They said that was considered when they made the decision to put him down.

I have it from a reliable source that they took the gorilla out with a 12ga slug between the eyes, and he dropped like a stone.
