Auction snipers

question for you auction snipers. What is your targeted time to pull the trigger. Do you wait for it to get less than 1 minute or even 10 seconds? or is it better to snipe right at the 15 minute mark since it is going to reset back to 15 minutes after your 10 second snipe?

Usually I hope for snipers to get me out of a lowball bid. This time I'm hoping they're waiting to pounce on this 311 .410 sxs with a very beautifully grained stock.

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

there are no auction snipers here, only people who dont understand how the 15 minute rule invalidates their entire bidding strategy.

Make your bid and walk away. GB will let you know if you won.

Wrong! You can win many auctions by bidding every 15 minutes, and the other bidders will give up. [:D]

I have seen the crazy game of sniper verses sniper with the 15 minute rule and the funniest one was an auction I stopped bidding at around 1100.00 on a rifle that I won a similar one for around 800.00 about a month before. So I was already over my limit and stopped bidding. The other guys stayed at it for over 4 hours and took that auction to 2100.00+ with all kinds of strategy during the remaining 15 minutes[:D]
I wanted to put my rifle up on auction right away for the loser but figured it was a lost cause and just kept it.

I don't know if you guys are aware of it, but there is software available for e-Bay bidders that guarentees successful automatic computorized sniping on e-Bay....and e-Bay has done nothing to outlaw it!

Leave emotion and adrenalin out of the bidding process. Fire the most you're willing to pay including shipping, bid appropriately, and wait to see if you win. If you don't, then it went for more than what you were willing to pay anyway.

Sniping wouldn't work against me. It might make be pay at the upper end of my "druthers", but I won't change my upper limit on my bid. Like others have mentioned, I decide my highest bid and place it well in advance and let the autobid take care of it. If someone bids higher than I am willing to pay, fine, he values it more than I do and he buys it. I won't be goaded into making "winning" the primary objective instead of buying a gun for no more than I think it is worth. [:D] Some newbies think their manhood is in jeopardy unless they fight a bidding duel and win, even if they end up paying twice what a gun is worth. [:D]

I had a friend with a auction he wanted , He did not have a GB account and was a last minute thought , he had to have it. I explained the 15 min rule and How I like it, any way he was set on winning and the other guy same line of thought ( sure could have found many others cheeper ), it became a personal thing with my friend , I tried to talk him out several times any way it went from 800.00 to 1200 to 1300.00 I would have to check. just the two guys set on winning .not sure how many times we reset the clock I even suggested going his top at least if the other guy won it would force him to the the limit in place of the 20 or 25.oo junp each time you just never know sure the seller was happy and my freind was just as happy thats all that counts

I try not to extend the auction, bid my highest with about 15 minutes to go the let her ride.

On eBay I use a program that places my bid with 2 seconds left in the auction. It also lets you select a group of items and say this is my max, I need to win 3 of this item. Dont go over this price, delivered.

That is of course not how we work, but I keep getting pissed at some of our newer bidders who are driving the price of a used RCBS Auto primer feeder to $10 more than a new one.... I'm just going to have to go buy a new one.... (my primers show up Tues!)
