Bad Weekend for my Buddy Dudley UPDATE

My old buddy Dudley is having a hard time. Yesterday, he was laying down in the family room and as he tried to get up, he yelped and cried. He has never done this before. He was having trouble standing and yelped and cried. He bit me when I tried to comfort him (never done that before) so I knew he was hurting.

We took him to the Animal Emergency Hospital and they checked him over and just like a kid, he acted more like himself at the vet.

They checked him over and gave him some anti-inflamatories. The poor ole fellow is 12+ and is hobbling around today. We are going to take him back to the vet tomorrow and take another look.

I hope we are not getting to the point of one of those hard decisions.

Hang in there Dudley, I hope you have many more happy years.

An older dog like this usually has arthritis. My dog does, and she gets a lot of relief with glucosamine, chondroitin, and msm. I give her the same pills that I take.

Check the color of his gums. My best dog buck would go thru bad then good times. His liver had a disease that would bleed thenclot. His gums were white as a sheet and I knew that it was time. I thought I would never make that call w the vet, but in the end I owed him the dignity of no suffering. I pray for your dog and you. Be strong if and when that "time" arrives

Funny thing about dogs and pain.

They'll yelp a couple times then quiet down,
    even if they're still hurting.

Sounds like maybe Dud has a hip or leg that's painin' him.

    +1000

My friend Reggie the Yellow Lab made it to 14, and the last three he was taking the same stuff for cruddy joints I was. The Glucosamine and chondroitin seemed to really help. So did Fish Oil pills.

We will add Dudley to our thoughts and prayers.

Yep...that's the route we are going. Dudley irritated his shoulder
which he has had arthritic issues for a couple years. The Vet did not believe his paw or leg have any issues. It is in his shoulder/neck area. He is doing much better than he was on Saturday.

Thanks for all the prayers, well wishes, thoughts and suggestions. I appreciate them all.
