Transmission estimates

Went out for the last 1.5 days and got some quotes. It is funny how some places just want to take advantage of a situation. This morning the following
1. First local shop.. Guy wanted to build the transmission back the same way it was. That isn't any good cause it broke the first time... duh... he won't give me a quote for upgrade parts in the transmission or a heavy duty torque converter...gave me his card.. I threw it in the trashcan by the door.
2 Second local shop... Owner has only 2 vehicles in his large shop.. ( bad sign not busy .. like a restaurant.. no business keep looking ) He comes to counter.. I tell what I want.. he bluntly says.. I can't help you. Wow.. turns down business.Maybe something else is going on in his shop????
3.Another local shop.. Place has cars sitting everywhere and One employee. Owner is at desk doing nothing. I tell him what I need and he will return call but never heard of aftermarket parts I describe and he says he would rather just build it back the way it was. All I think of is what the first shop showed me on puter. He doesn't want to do an upgrade torque converter.
4. Transmission shop very near my home. Yesterday the guy quoted me a great price.. the ol bait and switch routine. I checked on them parts and there is no way he can do the job for what he quoted. I will go back tomorrow to get his formal quote but I think it is a waste of time for me. That shop speaks spanish.
5. Called a national known transmission shop that is about 15 mile from the house. He said he would come get my truck with the rollback, free of charge , check the transmission and determine the final cost. He knew all about the aftermarket parts and said the parts he used were the same as what I said. He recommended no stock converter be put back in but said the same thing they all said.. the transmission is fine stock built but the weak point in Dodges are the torque converters. An upgrade converter fixes it all. But for an additional 250-300 the upgrade clutches for the transmission would make it real real real tough.
Conclusion..For the places who won't upgrade.. they want repeat business if the parts are not upgraded. It will break again.
She will be in the last shop tomorrow getting the work started.

On both the Dodge transmissions that went bad on me it was front pump failure. The second one when the pump went it scattered chunks all through the trans. Perhaps torque converter caused it?
Exactly. The pump will go out if I drive my truck now. That is what I have been told. Some metal will cause it to fail. That is why the rollback will come get mine tomorrow. Every transmission person I have spoken to has said the torque converters are the issue with Dodge. Maybe I could just change it out with an upgrade but since the tranny is out why not spend the extra 5-700 and put it back new.
I hate doing the chain thing, but they cheaper, offer more FREE perks, and guarentee their work. I very rarely do local anymore even shop on the internet now.

Start driving Fords and this wont happen.......[;)]
I towed my Ford home when I got the Dodge 5 yrs ago. Ford wasn't big enough to tow and handle the hydroseeder I had.
I don't need any sled drag pulling transmission and not spending 5k+ for one.
Really? I thought all Cummins powered ve hi kuls required a kryptonite transmission! [:D]

You can get a Cummins in a Ford. It just has to grow up to a bigger size to have the 5.9 Cummins

sf--You might like one of these. Close to Lexington too.. The one l saw had a 300hp ole yaller CAT engine.. l would imagine one of these would go better than 60k on the trans.. They have Cummins engines too.. A bit more than Dodge, but like Daddy said,"lts either good, 0r its cheap" [8D]
Come on over,, l will let u buy me lunch [^]

That doesn't look like a V-8 diesel.
'07 5.9 that I'm going to have to do transmission work to, or be siiting at home not working when it finally goes. I checked a local here in Odessa and was quoted around 2500. I would like to take it to Midlothian, about 350 miles away, and get one built, but it was high. He quoted right at 6000, with a few extras, such as an external spin on filter. But that did include a triple disc torque converter. I have 170,000 miles on my truck now, without too many complaints.
