I think that is what I have and it has made me miserable lately. Have took a round of Cipro and so far not relieved all the uncomfortable issues. Anybody else has this and what worked? This is twice I have had this in the last couple years. All other tests come back normal.

Yes I had that real friggen bad. I was treated at the University of Penn and eventually got prostate cancer.Doctors say that prostatitis will keep coming back. I was treated with flowmax, cipro and a few other anibiotics.Nothing worked. [V][V][V] I will tell you that when you go pee, make sure you are emptying your bladder completly. This is one cause. The other is smoking. I know that sounds funny but that is what all my Dr.s told me at U of P. This is one nasty infection that is hard to get rid of. It took me two years the first time and three years the second time. If you want to talk, email me and I will gve you my phone number.Good luck, I know what you are going through.John

Thanks Oakie for the information. This is twice I have had this. The last time Cipro fixed in a few days. I have taken Cipro for ten days and it keeps coming back. Now I am on Levofloxacin 500MG, which my daughter an RN said, is about as strong as it gets without an IV drip. I have taken this for five days now and still the burning and uncomfortable feeling hasn't let up.

I had a bad one a few months ago. Cipro would not touch it, and I had to use Levaquin instead.

I felt miserable for well over a week. It felt as though someone had coated a normal size baking potato in pepper spray and shoved it up my backside.

The Levaquin shut down my gut, just the opposite effect that most antibiotics have on me, so I was taking laxatives just to be able to go potty. The laxatives dehydrated me and I ended up in the hospital.

It was no fun at all.

After you get the infection beat. Try one flow max tablet a day and and about 4 quarts of liquids. I usually drink a mild diuretic like Tea or Coffee and chase that with water.
I religiously drink about two quarts of cold tea a day, a couple of pots of coffee and a quart of water, all told about 4-5 quarts of liquids a day. As long as I keep flushing the system it works just fine and the infection doesn't return.
If I forget and don't drink enough, the symptoms start to return. It might take awhile to find a rhythm and quantity of liquids that works for you, when you do, stick with it.

My father, my father in law and my Doctor all said lots of liquids. After I got smart enough to listen and follow simple instructions, my problems became minimal.

All the liquids can be uncomfortable in the beginning, but the continued flushing of the system does seem to help. Ask your Doc.

I guess I was lucky the antibiotics knocked it down until it was tolerable, the flow max kept the system working and all the liquids kept it from returning. I'm also lucky I don't have any serious blood pressure issues, all the liquids would likely affect that. Ask your Doc.

All the extra liquids while your taking the antibiotics is likely to be a bad idea.

Something else you have to do is figure out someway to empty your prostate, whatever it takes. It's always nice when you can get a little help from a friend.[:D]

Cranberry Juice*, another worthless old folk rememdy. Research has shown that it has no affect whatever on urinary calculi or any other kidney or bladder function.

Had it once some years ago. Whatever they gave me knocked it out. No fun.

*and I can't stand the stuff, drank several gallons for stones once.[xx(]

Developed Vasculitis, which is an inflammatory and autoimmune mallady that affected "everything". Originally was put on cipro and flomax (levwhateverthatstuffis) then after 2 different specialist appointments and lots of blood tests the doctors prescribed prednisone. The stuff works but the downside is that once on it they have to very slowly wean ya off due to the adrenal gland needing to remember how it's supposed to work. No kiddin. Least the good days are more often then the bad ones, it's a start [;)] The good news is that after 35 years of smoking I'm 7 months smoke free, who'd a thunk it?

Since it's the prostate, have you guys ever thought about getting an extra girlfriend, or two? [:D]

On a serious note, this sounds incredibly painful. Therefore, I have made up my mind not to ever get this. [:o)]

I have to look this up, as it's hard to imagine how the prostate would get infected. Is it an infection caused by something that travels up the urethra?

Bladder infections are common, pretty much a ritual for old people when winter hits. When Prostate swells and doesn't allow a proper flow, infection sets in. If it gets bad enough, it can back all the way up into your kidneys, which is not good.

Some guy over here argued regular sex is necessary for a healthy prostate. He said since he was a widower and to old to get remarried the insurance should pay for a rent by the hour mate. He actually won and the insurance now pays for his prostitutes.

Women get menopause, guys get Prostate trouble, old age sucks. You ever wonder why their are so many cranky old people around?

That's an old wives tale I'm going to see my urologist tomorrow as well. It's not good at this point.

I had it once a few years ago,....not pleasant is all I can say.
In my case it only took one round of Cipro to get rid of it.

So far, so good, and I don't want to be jinxed.[;)]
