Got a Jury Duty notice

Didn't get one last year for some reason. Got one like clock work for years on the same year as I had to smog my ride.

I'm guessing they had a new list of fresh meat from all those California Licenses they gave out to illegals [:D]. They're more of the perps peers then my Japo *.

So this time it's on a Monday. Typically it was like Tuesday or Wednesday. I wonder if I call on Friday they'll just excuse me or make me call back for a week? Either case I'll call on Monday to speak to a human if they want me to keep calling to check.

Weird, isn't it? I've lived here 32 years and have gotten only one (that I was excused from) and that one was my first ever.

I'm retired, rational, and ready - that's probably why they skip me.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

By us you can only get called once every five years. I've got called four times, the wife once and my daughter never. I'm sure I'll get called again next year about this time.

So called on Friday about 18:00 P.M. only to be told to call back on Monday after 17:30 P.M. when there will be no human to answer if I need to show up on Tuesday. I'll call in the A.M. on Monday 'cos I don't wanna play this phone games.

The last time I was called, I rang them up and told them I would be glad to serve if they didn't mind a guy with a very bad back getting up every 20 minutes or so to walk around in the courtroom.

Fairly quickly I was told to just have my doc fax a letter over, and they would excuse me permanently. This does not include Federal matters though,...I've never been called for one of those, but the same would apply.

Whenever I get called I get disqualified by the defense attorney because I am an engineer. Guess he thinks I will be logical and fair rather than swayed by sympathy for his client.....

Here in California they go by the motor vehicle. Since the illegal I mean undocumented citizens gets a notice, too if they have a state issued diver's license. Then again being a sanctuary state anyone can be a juror [:D].

I actually got selected a few years ago. I had a great time. As jury foreman, I got to educate a few limp wristed liberals and steered the verdict to the right end. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It's easy to * about f'ed up juries. It's more fun to lead one to the right decision.[:)]

Always thought about jurors, people listening to a court case that did not know how (or smart enough) to get out of being picked for a jury duty.

I was notified that I'm "on the list" for jury duty in Federal court. I'm not opposed to the duty BUT I will probably be excused due to being the lone operator of my farming operation with no one to do my daily chores.
I've been "on the list" several times but either excused or rejected for some reason.

I have been a naturalized citizen since 2000, I got my 2nd one couple of weeks ago. I had business trip planned to Toronto that same day. I called up explained the situation, so they let me off.

Business trip got postponed, so I called them up and asked to be put back on [:D] Getting off or getting back in was no problem [:0]

    Jury "duty" is BS
Though some seniors go for the free entertainment.
Every court employee getting $60-80-100k +++
    They give you $5.
Last judge I faced- had 8 P/T jobs for town courts. Incompetent as all hell. If you suck as a lawyer in NJ you go with a politicrap provided judgeship. BUT--You have to protect your RICO party.
He was pensioned out at $210,000 for his $300k job.
Still works per diem when present judge no shows. $900 per day
Politically appointed - corrupt to the core- no justice -just favors for their friends and family.
    Obey the law??? LMAO

Yep, sure get to see some sorry assed lawyers, judges and the system and how disgusting the system can be.
Only good experience was too see how sorry assed and disgusting the court system can be, sending someone to the big house for a minor offense and turning out murders and rapist to make room for them
and it's all about how much money they (the judges, lawyers and employees at the court house) can rake into their pockets and bleed the taxpayers)[:0][:(!]

    Jury Duty is great.
It's your most effective method of changing your immediate environment, allows a glimpse into the sordid world of the finest Justice System that money can buy, educates you about the Judges & prosecuting attorneys involved in ruining the community, and gives you the opportunity to share opinions and pizza with random strangers in a Courthouse downtown.
And they cover your parking and pay minimum wage; no wonder you have to be Selected.

Could you imagine how many would fight each other to get on a jury if the pay was set at the scale used to pay major athlete's![:D]

So spoke to a human about 09:00 A.M. and she convinced me to play the odds. She did offer to postpone it for 3 months then I get to again go through the process over. Not until I hug up I did the math. It would've been near Christmas. I think I screwed that up.

So how did she convince me to take my chances? She mentioned I have a high group number 00059. Don't know what it means but I called my work to maybe get someone else lined up for tonight. So I now get to call the court house again at 17:30 P.M. Yay [V]!

I'll bet she just wanted me to get off the phone and know nothing about this "high" group number.

Well I guess the lady knew her thing. I didn't get picked.

I'll have to remember the high group number in couple of years.

They called me about twenty years ago.
Made it all the way up to the questioning part.
Turned out that my brother in law was the arresting officer.
They must have made a note of it because I've never been called again.

It's not the foreman's duty alone. It is the duty of each of the jury members to explain his position and try to sway the others to the right verdict. True, you can refuse to explain your position to the others, but I think that rarely happens. It is only human to want to justify your position to others. In any case, I was able to show a few others the error in their logic and they willingly changed their vote. After talking with friends who served also, they agreed that was how it worked in their jury rooms. [:)]
