It seems that the SC DoR didn't have their ducks in a row...
Or at least... Not enough encryption of the sensitive data they keep on tax payers.

Concerning the 3.6 MILLION SS ID numbers stolen and the 387,000 credit and debit card numbers kept on file.

The breach occurred in mid-September but, it took the DoR until 20-October to close the breach...

The cyber 'attacker' tried once before finally succeeding the second in mid-September...
Go figure THAT one!

    So how do.we find out if it was our data stolen? Also how long is your stuff on file for? Reason being is I moved several years ago from SC

    If you want to be safe, just call the 800 number on each of your credit cards, tell them the card has been compromised, and they will cancel it and send you a new one immediately. That takes care of the charging.
    The identity theft is a little harder. You can put a warning in your files at the credit bureaus that your identity has been compromised and to notify you if any applications for loans or credit cards are reported so that they can be disallowed.
