I believe this is the original tune that our Taps is a rendition of. This 13yo girl is simply out of this world. I seldom get emotional about any song anymore but her version brings out the goose bumps.

Dang it, I sure would like to have her play over my bones when the time comes.

You will have to Google her since I don't have the skills to cite a link. I really think it will be worth your time! Tom

since I don't have the skills to cite a link

When you get to the page you want to link to,
in your browser top line is the address,
hold your left button down on your mouse as you run across it.
it should turn highlite in blue.
then click the right mouse button, a menu will pop up...left click on "copy"

now go back to us on the forum... when posting ,right click again, same menu pops up, left click on "paste".

The two tunes are somewhat similar. But not related. Both are beautiful pieces of music in their own right. [:)]

Excellent performance. However, not the "original version of Taps". Il Silenzio was written in 1965.

Same young lady a few years younger, my guess this where she got her start. Recognized her right off on how she holds the instrument to her lips

Another version--this guy really blares it out

Il Silenzio, Italian, written in 1965:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Il_Silenzio_%28song%29

A brief history of "Taps", written in 1862:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taps

First time I heard Il Silenzio I thought it an extended rendition of Taps. The claim is that though similar, they are not related. That Il_Silenzio is inspired from other, earlier works.

Still, the meanings are so similar, and as used, it doesn't really matter. Both are beautiful and deeply moving.

Fishkiller, she was 13 when she played on the original video. I guess it sort of became her signature piece from then on. Got to admit, for a 13yo, she was pretty good! Tom

She does have a unique style of playing. I played trumpet all through grade and high school. Most players center the mouth piece. She plays with it off to her right. Whatever works. It is one of the most physically tiring instruments to play because you have to generate such high air pressure in your mouth and then keep your lips tight against that pressure to generate the note. I remember well, sometimes leaving band practice with the whole lower half of my face numb. [:D]
