If anyone has any suggestions, I need proper boxes for shipping weapons/rifles, the USPS doesn't offer anything suitable.
Thanks.

If you want to buy boxes, I get mine form U-Line:
    http://www.uline.com/

If your looking for freebies (and who isn't?) Golf stores seem to have boxes that are a good fit for many rifles and carbines.

U could also take any large box and cut it and tape it to any size U like. It's very easy and only cost you a few feet of packing tape.

I have used the cheap plastic hard cases offered at Wally World and several gun shops. They are pretty inexpensive and sometimes include their own cardboard cases. That way you get pretty good protection from even the clumsiest handlers.

You may want to call around your local area and price check the various shipping suppliers. I order mine from these guys.....

    http://www.prattindustries.com/

    Mine are 8 1/2x4x48 and cost $2.20 each....but I buy 500 or more at a time.

If you are talking one or two boxes.....maybe a local gun store that sells on line will have a few they can sell you.

    BINGO

Just stop at some local Golf Equipment stores and ask for boxes. Or maybe visit their dumpster out in the back parking lot.

    Evad55,

Everyone has an idea about what they would use for shipping firearms. Most are too cheap to do it properly and prefer to find anything that closely approximates the firearm is in size and call it good to go.

We package and ship anywhere between 5 and 20 very expensive ($4,000.00+ each) custom rifles a week. We originally thought that any cardboard box would do and it did until UPS destroyed one with a rifle in it. We filed the insurance claim which was denied. We called them for a FtF meeting for an explanation. They showed us the BMC or Box Makers Certificate on the bottom flap of the box. This is that printed round seal on the * of most boxes. The seal on our box was for substantially less weight and resistance than what we actually needed. We suggested that since they accepted the payment for insurance that the insurance pay out was due to us anyway. They stated that we should sue them. We fired UPS as our shipper and now use FED-X.

But the big idea is that we now use standardized fitted rifle cases with foam liners and the 'proper' box with the proper BMC label just in case and we charge for it. We had FED-X approve our packaging in writing. Our clients are very pleased when they receive our product.

So, cheap out and find something at the golf store or the pawn shop or the LGS and roll the dice. But if that rifle or shotgun has any value to you or your customer at all, take the time to wrap and ship it properly.

    Best.

Just remember the tamper proof tapes tells you that the rifle has been stolen out of the box just before you open it and find out that the rifle has been stolen out of the box. [;)]

Just get yourself a hot glue gun and a box cutter and make your own without any tape needed.
I use old reefer boxes turned inside out. Cut to fit and any tampering is quite evident.

Typical shipper positions: 1. If it got lost, YOU poorly addressed it. 2. If it got damaged, YOU poorly packed it. RESULT: Rarely any payout from them or their insurance. [:(]
