All those mass murdering grandpa's who paid thier dues now have to pony up for the tax and spenders looking for yet another way to screw the taxpaying seniors...

    What a scam!

This goes hand in hand with their push to have the VA declare veterans to be "mentally defective" in order to strip their gun rights.

yes the military can't have guns at work but the SS at least in the podunk city I live in has a rent a cop at the SS office I guess the SS office is a high crime rate . so we are safe from any muslims that might want to kill us while at SS

Typical democrat. Use every means possible to take away your guns. Looks like now the democrats are wanting to disarm the weak and elderly now who are frequent victims of crime.

The mental health angle is only an excuse.

And don't walk in with a knife clipped to you pocket. Every office here has one or two watching for old guys like me with one. Go back out and leave it in the car. The car the Hispanic rug rats playing in the parking lot hit with a rock and cracked the windshield.
Too bad the idiot didn't ask if I had a gun in my pocket, which I did. Same pocket the little knife was clipped to.

The weak and elderly--- I never thought of this angle until now---

Imagine how much crime we could prevent by disarming this group

Karl, every SS office has a armed rent-a-cop in it.
My guess is there are some irate people that get that way when turned down [^]

Actually they get that way after setting for 41/2 hours being subjected to the rug rats rampaging through the waiting room... just to have your appointment changed because "we are overloaded today"![V]

The first time I had to go to the office, the rent a cop saw my clip and asked me to put it in the car, I went to it and just unclipped it and dropped in in the pocket [;)] They never spotted 380 in my back pocket [:0][:D]

To play Devils Advocate. You do know this applies to folks who cannot take care of themselves like folks with Dementia and Alzheimer's. If I cannot take care of my affairs I really hope a family member pulls my guns.

If you include anyone who has a financial planner managing their portfolio, that covers a whole lot of people.

Well, it's mostly a symbolic gesture. I don't know the figure, but there are probably only a few hundred people a year who need to have a rep payee appointed by a court.

The best way to avoid encounters with the federal government is to have direct deposit of your SS check into a joint bank account with someone who you know & trust. That probably should be the person who has your medical Power of Attorney & advance directives.

If you want a rep payee for some reason, & are still able to communicate & write, it's not difficult & you will never need to worry about the JBT's knocking down your door to seize your guns.

It's just another power grab of big government to take away any guns that you may own if you become incapacitated in your mind and body.

I see much more coming as they tighten the ropes on the free and the brave![:o)] The Police state is just now appearing with it's teeth and claws is all this is about and will just get worst with The Medical records of US citizens!

I work for the building owner of a VA clinic, doing maintenance.

The Security guard was training a new guy and when I walked in he introduced me and said "and he can keep that knife in his back pocket since he does maintenance work here"

I had no idea he knew it was there so I give the guy a little credit for at least being observant of his environment.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I have no problem with mentally incompetent people being blocked from carrying guns. The problem lies in the clumsy and invalid ways in which the government keeps trying to identify those people. i.e. just because you are a vet, you are not necessarily a danger to yourself or others and as pointed out above, just because your SS check goes to your attorney/money manager/investment broker etc is not evidence that you are mentally incompetent. You may have arranged that financial route for several other reasons besides mental incompetence. So, any blanket policy that denies you your guns based on an overly broad categorization is just stupid and evidence the powers that be are too lazy to determine VALID criteria.

Yeah I'm OK with the read of the policy if you can't manage your disability money you probably don't need to control a gun either.

The key phrase would be "can't manage" versus "have DECIDED not to manage" the money. Someone would have to come up with some reasonable guidelines. For example, my 85 year old mother made a conscious decision to have her SS check go to her investment manager to be added to her retirement investments. That should NOT disqualify her from having a gun.
