I was going through some of my Dads ammo and i came across 2 boxes of paper shotgun shells. I got some Western Super X and some Revelation W A whatever that is.

The writing is gone off of all the shells all you can see is some are low brass and high brass.

I think that is pretty cool.

some time back a guy strolled into dads barm with a milk crate full of ammo. Wanted $100. 2 bricks of winchester wildcats, 10 boxes 243, box ,32, 5 or 6 boxes of winchester buckshot, 9mm, .38, bunch 30-06 and maybe 10-12 boxes of sears 20 ga shells.

The shells shoot fine, they just come part when you shoot them. I hate to waste a bullet. So I am trying to find a couple old low budget single shot shotguns, 1 20 and 1 12.

I have 2 or 3 boxes of paper shells I have gotten form family who have passed on. I like them, and if they were commercially produced today, I would buy and use paper.

Watch it.Most of the old paper shells had corrosive primers.Keep that in mind when U shoot them.

They were my Dads so i will not shoot them. They will be my reserve when things get tight. With the writing gone all i can tell is low brass or high brass.

I hope the time never comes when i need them. That means the world has fallen apart. LOL

I might need them before Obummer gets out of office.[:(]

I still have paper shells that my dad bought.

Since the link to my auctions is in my signature line I always keep something auto relisting. ATM it's the box only from when plastic shells first came out. The actual shells that were in it when I got it had been reloaded and seemed to shoot awful hot, I gave them away for components.

I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

Lots of paper shells out there without corrosive primers. Not sure exactly when they phased them out. Actually no problem shooting corrosive primers as long as you clean properly after shooting them. I would not use them in a pump or semi auto due to the difficulty of cleaning.

I have a box of Federal 12 GA paper hull shells. A friend found several boxes in his dad's basement when he was cleaning it out. The shells and the box look like they were bought last week.

I have quite a few old 45/70 shot shells. They are brass cases with wooden sabots over the shot. I pulled one sabot & the shot had all turned to a powder.

Nothing smells better than a paper shotgun shell when it ejects from the chamber after being fired, that little curl of smoke and the smell of old Alcan #5................that brings back memories.[:)]

FWIW, Revelation WA was the brand name for Western Auto Hardware stores.

Nublack on 12 g shells was used from 1905-1938.

what exactly does anyone mean when they say "OLD" ?

most of you folks are in your 20's - 30's, so i am guessing that the shotgun ammo i used as a younger man are now "OLD" to you ?

please define "OLD" !! OK ??

My experience with unknown origin paper 12 gauge shells is that they rarely work. I came a across a bunch a few years ago. None of them fired.

Buddy of mine did the same thing, found a bunch of them cheap at some shop - none fired.

Sure both batches were probably wet at some point in their history.

No paper shotshells but I was using up some 35 year old Eley brown plastic shells and a feller I was out shooting with thought I was nuts to be wasting collectible ammo.

Um, I'm pretty sure I bought them on a clearance sale at K-Mart back in 1980 ... "Collectible?"
