This is insane and could only happen in NYC.

This guy who has spent 39 of the last 50 years in prison just won $750K from NYC because they left him in lock up for 6 days with..................................................................................wait for it.................................

an erection[:0]

The story:

Some selected C&P

A former inmate's untreated six-day erection while locked up in The Tombs has climaxed in a $750,000 settlement from the city.
Rodney Cotton, 50, reached the six-figure deal on the eve of going to trial.
He claims he suffered "permanent injuries to his BallPark Frank" and "loss of function" due to the negligence of doctors at the Manhattan Detention Center and correction officers who ignored his pleas for help.
"If I had the choice between the reward and having my manhood restored, I'd have my manhood restored in a heartbeat," said Cotton, who has been incarcerated for 39 of his 50 years, including a prison stint for a 1989 manslaughter case in Brownsville.

Here he is:

So he has been in prison since he was 11? 39 years and he is 50, did I do the math wrong?
Just smile and say nothing, let them guess how much you know.

I think it means he has been incarcerated 39 years of his 50 on this planet. You did the math right so I am not sure how he could be in and out of jail. However many years he has been and out of jail he sure did some hard time at the Tombs[:D]

Something very screwed up with the math in that story. He has been in and out of jail for various reasons. How if he's been locked up since 1976?

Well, we're talking about a story in a tabloid, so......you really can't demand accurate journalism.

Certain drugs (& spinal cord injury) can cause a persistent erection, permanent tissue damage can result if not treated. I've never been in the Toombs, but imagine it's like most NYS prisons: understaffed & overcrowded.

I would have preferred that he got timely treatment; i.e., draining the blood from his member with a hypodermic syringe.

The city's private health care provider has been in some scandals it seems. This isn't their first foul-up in patient care. I don't like seeing a criminal get a cent but if you have a person under your control then you are responsible for that person's health to some degree. As the drug that caused the problem was prescribed in the jail's health system, administered within the jail, and all the incompetence happened there, I don't have a problem with punishing those concerned.

Trouble is, "those concerned" are doing just fine. It is the taxpayers who get the shaft on lost lawsuits.
