*UPDATE:
I read alot, and got good advice here. you can spend a fortune on a scope, my younger brother told me to spend about 1/2 what the rifle cost on a scope. I went over that budget but I'm really happy with my choice. A Zeiss Conquest in stainless 6.5x20x50 with mil-dot reticle. This is "used" and picked up from the auction side of GB. It looks great! Still need rings...
I have a rifle that I expect can outshoot me
Rock River Arms A2 Flat top "varmit" with 1:8 twist 24" bbl
A reasonable scope could suit my needs, but I have never bought a real top end scope and lately Im just itching for one.
Should I dive in and buy something nice (which I can afford to do) or go more conservative and save my pennies for more reloading supplies.

I looked at a Vortex scope a couple weeks ago, 4-12x IIRC. One of the clearest scopes I've ever looked through.

+1! I will be purchasing the Crossfire II 6-18x44 DHBDC (http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-crossfire-ii-6-18x44-ao-rifle-scope.html) for my wife's RRA. They're just a tad over $200 depending where you get them.

The one listed below, with the Larue mount looks like a pretty good deal even if it is used.

A rifle is only as good as the scope that's on it. What's your price range? What brand are you leaning towards?
What he said!!![:D]
You didn't say what you are going to use the rifle for, so until I know what your intentions are I would hesitate to make any detailed recommendations.
Get the best glass you can afford, you will not regret it.[;)]
They have what you want or Need to choice from
I do not know of one scope that will do everthing, but LEUPOLD will
have a model that will come close.as you need a difference scope for Varmit hunting then then you do for hunting in the Brush.
LEUPOLD also has LIFETIME FREE repair of replace.
I plan on using the one from my MkX magnum that went punk on my AR.

Too rich for my wallet, but a buddy has one on his AR and he swears by them.
I think they are one of the best looking scopes going, very clean lines with no 3" adjusting knobs.

So most of yalls are topping out at 12 power, eh? I know I don't usually go past 10 power but I like a bit more "seeing". Big scope, so I can watch the soda can look shocked when one of the pills goes inside the mouth.
I think I'd top out at $500 but I'd feel better about $350 (or less [:D]). Love to find me a disco floor model at clearance prices.

But then again I've owned and had good performance out of one of these cheap things for about thirty years:
