Texas CHL Question

Has there been any recent changes to CHL Law?

Concealed carry at 18?

Carry on college campus?

My daughter is very interested, they are discussing it with classmates, and I'm on a job with no access to the info.

Thanks!

If you have a Texas CHL and are pulled over by the police for a traffic violation, I understand that it is required for you show both drivers license and carry permit if you are carrying at that particular time. Do you need to automatically show permit if you are not carrying at that time??
    Thanks, Kc

I can't find where the requirements have changed; this is 2011-12 information from what I found at TxDPS:

    (g) Notwithstanding Subsection (a)(2), a person who is at least 18 years of age but not yet 21 years of age is eligible for a license to carry a concealed handgun if the person:
    (1) is a member or veteran of the United States armed forces, including a member or veteran of the reserves or national guard;
    (2) was discharged under honorable conditions, if discharged from the United States armed forces, reserves, or national guard; and
    (3) meets the other eligibility requirements of Subsection (a) except for the minimum age required by federal law to purchase a handgun.
    (h) The issuance of a license to carry a concealed handgun to a person eligible under Subsection (g) does not affect the person's ability to purchase a handgun or ammunition under federal law.

If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!

    Thanks guys!

We just saved some college idiots a jail sentence.

My daughter just passed this along!

I told her to get some new friends, as gun loving and pro freedom as they are.

It's 21 because that is the legal age to "purchase" a handgun, even though it is legal to "own" one at 18.

Why get new friends? It sounds like these are like minded. They also seem to be willing to ask questions instead of just jumping in with both feet.

    Remember when you were 20?

    No.

    [:D]

They were about to do something very stupid!
    (according to my daughter).

She is reasonably well versed in gun law and being around the wife and I, asked them for time to ask me to be sure.

    I'm glad she did!

I'm pretty sure at some point my middle name was Stupid.

The good thing is that they hopefully listened. IMHO, the ones who don't listen and never learn are the ones to avoid.
