In this picture taken sometime in the winter during the late 50s you can see a ton of boats at the left of the photo that were anchored right off of the boat loading ramp Sauger fishing. You just dropped a yellow and white fly (jig) usually both at the same time to the bottom and slowly drag it along or jig it up and down very very slowly. Most every one caught their limit. It seemed the colder it got the better the fishing. I've had ice clog up my reel and the eyes on the rod would be frozen shut.
In this view your looking across the French Broad River toward the boat dock. The Holston River runs underneath the rail road bridge where it meets up with the French Broad to form the Tennessee River.
