Mega Arms "Maten" now with Government Funding and build cost.

I was at my local when I came across this stripped "Matched" upper and lower combo. We figured the dude bought it just incase hilary got in the office. Or dude realized he can't install the new and improved bullet button on Billets. Either case she was for sale for $475. I know I should finish other projects but I figure she won't go bad.

Don't know a thing about the company but the silly thing wouldn't pivot apart. Maybe lacking the weight was the reason or she was just that tight. Turned out she was just that tight. Managed to take her apart and saw what they did to make her that tight. That impressed me enough to buy it.

Sure I'll be on the top ramen and canned foods diet until next pay day. I can have fresh meat next month [:D]. No it won't be that bad I got stuff in the freezer and pantry that needs rotating out.

I plan to buy components and build the upper for the long range AR10 project. Since there is no "Forward Assist" I can look in to those lightened BCG (kind a like the JP Enterprise one). Instead of making my Aero into the "long range" paper puncher. The Aero will be just an AR10 or maybe one of those feather weights?

So anyone build off the Mega Arms or know much about them?

I know nothing but it is a habit that requires and intervention :)
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

    Always learn something here.

    Making mental notes.

Will have to keep my eyes out.

Not that I need (another) AR. [:0]

    Nice score Yosh.

I do require an intervention. Who ever gets to sort out my place after I kick the can will have to wade through acres of porn but they'll find good stuff [:D].

buschmaster - That looks like the logo. Don't remember the front of the magazine was checkered. Not that I was looking [:D]. I remember she was made in Centralia, WA like their site http://www.megaarms.com/

I'll have to look for the laser engraved "T" numbers. I know the serial number didn't start with a "T". Now that I'm reading what they "feature" on the site mine didn't have the receiver tensioning screw. There is a threaded hole but no screw. Or a billet charging handle. Since she's considered "used" those missing bits ain't much.

They did have trouble figuring out the manufacturer on the computer to do the paper work. There was a listing for "Mega Machine Shop" but not for "Mega Arms". Kind a makes me wonder if they spun off again?

84Bravo1 - No one really needs another AR but AR-10? You make room [:D].

A topic of which I know very little.

I have one AR now - took an NIB Colt - standard 5.56 - in trade. The months ago...

It has not yet been fired - Makaila orderd a few basic accessories on line - we have a local 3 gun shoot - course of fire that she wants to participate in (using the AR - her Browning A5 combat shotgun - and her sig nightmare pistol).

so I read the banter posted here and follow the posted links - search keywords and have added ballistic and a few other periodicals to my reading list.

Cause in this realm I am a novice.

So don't mind me - I cannot contribute to much of the discussion at this point...

Other subjects I can drop some knowledge and declare school is in session.

So change in address and name only then?

I figured with "Maten" still being in production (on their site) any changes couldn't have happened that long ago. As long as I don't have fit issues like Rem-Lin I'm good [:D].

mrmike08075 - Building from receiver up and not buying a built upper is new to me.

While cruising through youtube they had a company tour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkR7grenOhw

They used to be in Tumwater from what dude said back in 2014 and figure their move to Centralia, WA last few years.

Oh I contacted them and they're sending me a receiver tensioning screw. Very nice of them.

I'm thinking about picking up one of their 20" .308Win barrel in 1:10 twist in medium.

Mega Machine Shop is still in business on Joppa St. in Tumwater. I think the Centralia site is a spin-off to move their firearms side to another location. It appears to be a warehouse/business office type of facility, though I've never been inside. Mega Machine references Mega Arms on their website. That is the Tumwater facility pictured in the Youtube video.

Well all I know is my receiver is stamped with Centralia, WA address. Maybe Tumwater shop's back making airplane parts for the Chinese, since Boing not buying? The youtube video's like from 2014.

Man I miss Oly in Tumwater and their Oly "Dark" [:p][:p][:p]. Is it still Miller? Or did it change hands again?

Say speaking of Oly wsameved in to Oly Arms old location?

Looking through old Shotgun News Aug. 2015 I came across J&G Sales ad where they had a listing for the Maten for $577. Since mine is lacking the charging handle I guess that's where the $100 will go to. Since it'll be pick up day tomorrow I'll see if the shop will ask the seller if it's somewhere in their home.

The kind folks at Mega Arms sent me the receiver tensioning screw at no cost. The envelope was chewed up a bit where their automated sorter imprinted the treads. If it weren't for the dime bag baggie I think I would've received and empty envelope [:D].

Pick up day, yay [:D]. I wish the gun shop opened at 08:00 A.M. so I don't have to bum around town for an hour after work. I guess I'll go to Target and look at their new DVDs. Or I could go to the Adult Book Store down the road from the gun shop. They open at 08:00 A.M. [:D].

She's home, yay [:D]. Seems like what I got is the Ambi-Bolt release one (the Ambi's MSRP is $654) [:0]. So looks like I got a better deal than I thought. I thought I got a okay deal missing the charging handle but that Ambi Bolt feature off set that. And I have to say that bolt release being on the right side above the trigger is so convenient [:D].

With that Ambi-Bolt release being there I don't mind not having the charging handle. Also it'll save me some cash from not having to buy a Phase 5 Extended Bolt release. Instead I'll get one of those crazy expensive charging handle like Radian Raptor [:D].

That AR may be tight from lack of use. Or the lower may need a little milling where the back lug seats in. If you need to break it open over your knee. Try using some magic marker to see where its rubbing and file it out on the receiver side till it lightens up....

Slight movement on the build. I ordered the Armageddon Roller Trigger Group from JP Enterprises today. Nearly $300 but I figure saved $100 by not buying the "drop in" one. For a while most of their trigger bits disappeared so when I saw them back today I had to order it. Now I need to find a magazine catch and see which way the California Assault Weapon Ban settles later this month. I wonder where I put the regular magazine release buttons? At least I got Hogue finger grooveless pistol grip and the Royal Armoury Grips so I can see which one the Roller Trigger works best. I almost forgot I did buy a Magpul PRS stock before Christmas (I forget who was having a sale on them for $145 a pop). I guess the lower will be built if I can find the small bits.

Now to find which charging handle to buy that ain't big like dumbo ears. Even though I do like AXTS and I think they'll snag everything but the Nobel Peace Prize. I may have to go big since my hands are getting arthritic. Maybe they got something better and cheaper being that it's been a while since I last looked.

ZEV and Mega Arms Announce Merger

    Posted February 1, 2017

ZEV Technologies, a company known for their custom, high-end GLOCKs, GLOCK parts, and accessories and Mega Arms, a manufacturer known for their AR-15 rifles, parts, and accessories today announced a merger of the two firearm companies.

The ZEV/Mega press release included the tidbit that the president of Mega Arms, Mike Miller, will immediately take control of both ZEV and Mega brand’s manufacturing processes. The press release also indicated there would be no significant changes to the two brands and that neither of the company’s product lines will significantly alter any time soon. No other inside information was announced at the time of this particular press release.

This merger announcement comes just three months after ZEV, an Oxnard California based company announced expansion to Centralia, Washington, the home of Mega Arms and also a few days after ZEV displayed an AR-15 trigger called the SSR at SHOT 2017.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Some parts are still available but the well is running dry. New designs are replacing the original parts.

    Best.

Yeah learnt that a while ago. I think they were trying to dump key-mods rails they got laying around. I'll go old school with Hogue round tube handguard before those silly things. That might be beyond old school and down right "classic". Also learnt Aero owns another AR aftermarket parts company. Seems all the gun company's are all in bed or just wife swapping. Even the small operations. Rainer Arms?

Wow I started this adventure back in 2017 then got side tracked with "White Feather" purchase. Kind a glad I got side tracked now since I got government funding in 2020 thanks to COVID 19. So this is what I spent on the components.

    Mega Arms “Maten” ($475.00)

    CA Tax/DROS ($42.00)

Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50 FFP EBR-C2 MRAD $570.00

Vortex Precision Cantilever Mount With 20-M.O.A. built in used $96.00

    Armageddon Roller Trigger Kit $304.00

    Magpul PRS $145.00

Magpul PRS Rubber Butt Stock Extender $15.00

    A2 Buffer Tube $20.00

JP Enterprises Silent Capture (with Spring Kit) $150.00

    Royal Armoury Grips $60.00

Government funded the following. Also without shipping and tax included (haven't did the math on that, yet).

JP Enterprises Silent Capture Tungsten Weights X2 = $80.00

JP Enterprises 20” Stainless Heavy Profile Barrel $420.00

JP Enterprises Adjustable Gas Block With Gas Tube and Bottoming Tap $140.00

JP Enterprises Low Mass BCG and Pin Pack $310.00

    JP Enterprises Ambi-Lever $18.00

    Soon to get.

Radian Weapons Raptor SD $ XXX.XX

    VG6 Gamma $ XX.XX or VG6 300BLK with Cage $XXX.XX

Hand Guard $ XXX.XX would like a Hogue round free float but they don't make it (I really like their rubber tube insert) but others do. Since Mega Arms went their way on the rail other makers rail will be shorter. Besides the free float will only protect the gas components and a place to mount a bi-pod. I am looking at Daniel Defense rail and whatever's still left of Parallax Tactical's stock. HJggernaut Tactical seems to have bought the property? So they're now knocking out rails under their name. But still open to others.

CompMag magazine to comply with California silliness or use a pistol grip that's been cut flush to the trigger guard so no longer a pistol grip. Or other silly grips to comply so I can use 10 round drop magazines. Since she's a big and off the bench kind a rifle I may fore go that route.

The package got here a day early, yay. There wasn't much in the box for $1200 after the barrel, bolt carrier group, few springs and bits.

Strange I ordered a 20" 1:11.25 and I got (according to the "laser" etching) 1:11 I kind a wanted 1:11 but I'll ask to make sure it's not a typo. Maybe the barrel's one of the older ones that got over looked for a while? The barrel also slips in the upper without heat. Just as well this is just a get me to paper barrel while I save up for a Kreiger. Maybe the second $1200 COVID pay out?

Brownell's was out of the Radian charging handle. I thought they had some in stock earlier in the week?

Got the measurement for the hand guard I'll need 15". The front of the gas block towards the muzzle is 14.5" and since it's adjustable I need to get to it without a long allen wrench.

I'll be degreasing the barrel and laying some tape down so I can bead blast it then some layers of high temp rattle can paint. I better remember to run some string to hang the barrel before taping. While the paint is drying I think I'll lap the scope mounts. I got the tools so why not? Besides it got some odd residue. Oh that reminds me I got some more ammo cans that could use some paint to make pretty. Maybe I'll get some leaves for camo effects. I wonder if I can find some fern growing? Too bad I don't know anyone growing pot. That would be a fun pattern in bright lime green.

Starting to look like a busy weekend.

While I was looking for "other" possible charging handle option I came across a old post by Daily Shooter on youtube doing a review on Raptors. Had that playing in the background when dude mentioned he had a discount code. So I went and looked on MSR to see if they had it in stock, if so would the code work? Yup and yup.

    https://msrarms.com/?s=Radian+Raptor

    discount code TDS5

Mine came up $120.25 (cheaper than Brownells before tax, and shipping). I thought about getting the "SL" but with the scope lives right above the charging handle I figured go for the Dumbo ears. I think the company sells the tabs separately if mine are truly Dumbo-esque for a swap out? Maybe I'll put one side longer than the other? Either case that's now sorted.

She'd done. So I thought. I forgot the magazine release. Of all the thing to forget. So this gives me a bit to ponder. Order the El Cheapo - GI and get a Comp-Mag and call it a day. Or an ambi-magazine release by JP Enterprise or Nemo and a cut a grip flush with the trigger guard for the "featureless". Since the Maten comes with an ambi-bolt release, ambi-charging handle and has ambi-safety so an ambi-magazine release would round that out. Comp-Mag or ambi-magazine release cost about the same.

I think I'll get a Accu-Tac bi-pod. Extending the legs are similar to Parker Hale and Atlas is way different. So I ain't learning a new tool.

Need to go borrow a scale to see how much she weighs. Any guesses? I know she weighs more than my White Feather. I'm thinking 20 pounds.

Okay with a bit of rest (no longer fuzzy) after a long day yesterday doing the barrel install. I can recall the event. I bought this tool thinking it was a barrel nut tool turned out to be just that. And not a tool to install the barrel to the upper which I thought I was buying. So threw that in to the lathe to remove this bit of a metal ring that prevented it from slipping in to the upper. That gone and now is a "multi-tool" we began the barrel nut torqueing. Threw in two shims to line up the barrel nut so the hand guard would line up at 70 pounds.

On to the other hand guard install. Also took two shims and 70 pounds. I learnt even though these were made by the same company they used different screws. Sure one's for .308 and the other .223. I made the mistake of trying to install screws to the .308 in to the .223 hand guard yup screwed those holes up. Chased it and I guess the initial attempt didn't screw up the holes as much as I thought I done did.

Lesson here do the work after resting and not try to finish after a day of work. Yes I thought it was an in and out task. Maybe an hour but turned in to four hours in mid day heat making me all pissy. At least the pain in the butt bit's done. So today I got a family size lasagna in the oven. Bigger than I thought it was. So I'll have left overs for days but for $13 it ain't bad. Thanks Marie. I didn't see family size eggplant parm I'll need to see if they even make them? Figure I got 2 hours to kill I'll be fondling my new precious.

So I think finally I'm done ordering from JP Enterprises. I got the Ambi-Magazine Release and paid the crazy silly price for it. It's nice but my thumb is too short so I can't Ambi it and the thing even has an extended pad. I also got the adjustable butt plate for the Magpul PRS. Since weight is a non issue and putting on all the "bells and the whistle" to truly make her customizable to me. It's a well made part and since I didn't pay full price for the PRS I didn't feel bad paying for it.

While I was there I ordered a few consumables like couple of extractors since she uses their proprietary bolt. A couple of jam nuts since there is no way I can make the crush washer work. I don't know why I ordered 2 maybe I was still on auto pilot ordering the bolt bits? Anyways ended up 4 Bills. At least I think I'm done with them now.

Next Accu-Tac bipod and maybe a Resurgent Arms "featureless" grip? The cut up A2 grip is kind a small. Still less than the "White Feather".

I went with the MDT "Elite" grips. Thought about the bright green but I went with the simple black.
