Prices are going higher because of outages affecting refineries that can process up to 2.2 million barrels of crude oil into products like gasoline. That means there will be less gasoline to meet the demand from American drivers.

"The pop in gasoline prices is an immediate response to the closure of refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast," said Matt Smith, director of commodity research at ClipperData

yep free enterprise can sometimes be tough on the checkbook...i prepay winter propane contracts at two places and that has worked well to my benefit...about breakeven last two years but was a winner when i prepaid at $1.31 and it went to $4...like to store gasoline but the sellors will not store prepaid and it is stupid to store it rural...unless it is underground and the pump set up is very well hidden..got a new 1000 gallon tank unused..and several 500 gal

My Brother-in-law lives in Corpus Christi (they weathered the storm alright, but are still being cautious), he works for a major refinery there, he told me the northern states get all their oil from Alaska and Canada lines and routes. So why did our prices rise due to storm damage [;)]

The prices haven't jumped as expected in my area of the Midwest. I re-filled my UTV/generator supply today just in case.

Diesel jumped up about 10 cents 2 weeks ago, but has dropped back down to 2.39. Regular (ethanol) is 1.99 to 2.10 , real gas is 2.70 or so. Nothing like the post Katrina spike or worse, the 2008 Election, I was paying $4 plus for diesel for 8 years...

Cold hard fact. National average for gas was $1.59 when Bush left office.

It was $3 plus for almost all of Big Ears reign....
