Anyone know of a factory load heavier than the Hornady and Double Tap 147gr?

Ammunition depot has some good prices on range ammo in 357 SIG, comes out to about 30 cents a round which is not too bad.

A fellow worker at the shop said it's not much fun too shoot (too much recoil) and doesn't offer much in terms of ballistics. What do y'all think?

Is the 357 sig better than a .45? And if it is, in what ways?

My Wife got me a new to me used G32 here on GB while I was gone. I ordered 500 rds of CCI Lawman ammo 125gr FMJ @1350 fps to test the piece.

I have not shot many 40 S&W's so I was not expecting the recoil, blast and snappyness(If thats a word[;)]) of the gun. I was thinking of replacing my G19 with this as my carry gun. I put 100 rds out of it on steel only. I like it but my follow up is not as fast as with a G19 or G34 but its hits with authority.

    In centerfire handguns I shoot about mostly 9mm with a mix of 45 acp, 41 and 44 magnum, I don't own a 40 cal.

Anyone shoot this number or carry it?

    You thoughts are appreciated.

FWIW I like the gun(I like Glocks), it is accurate and after I work on iut the trigger will be fine. The gun is a TX Highway patrol gun and I plan on replacing the springs before I shoot it a lot.

    Sam06,

I have recently got into the .40 club.

    1st I purchased a Kel-Tec Sub 2k carbine.

I then added a Glock 22, .40 cal. Due primarily to it being able to share mags with the Kel-Tec.

Yes, it is/was "snappy." I am not recoil averse so I was okay with it.

So much so, that I purchased shortly thereafter an FN FNS .40.

    I love it.

My fold up Kel-Tec Sub2k and my Glock 22 go with me in whichever of the two vehicles I'm driving as a "get home bag," should the need ever arise.

I need a .357 Sig barrel for my Glock now. [:D]

I'm glad to see you back and posting Brother.

Its good to be back. I must say even after spending 1/2 my time in Africa every year for the last 9 years it is still culture shock when I get back.

The reason I don't have a 40 is I like to reload for everything I own and I just didn't want to start dealing with another cartridge(I load for about 40 different cartridges[:0])

This little 357 SIG is very cool. I am not recoil adverse but this gun suprised me. I thought it was going to be about like a +P 9mm but it was very snappy. I am going to need to shoot it a lot to get my follow ups faster. I need to work on the trigger cause I think the THP put in a 10# connector[;)]

i'm not a fan of the .357sig , shoot one indoors with plugs and ear muffs on and then imagine shooting one with out for personal protection , to me personally the report is worse than a .44mag

I have been carrying a Glock 23 .40 S&W I bought on the auction side for about a month. I don't get where the "snappy recoil" complaints come from. Maybe I have been shooting magnum revolvers for so long that the .40 S&W doesn't have any recoil at all to me.

A friend of mine had a Glock 32, I liked it a lot. I think you have to be a reloader to get true magnum ballistics from the .357 sig, factory ammo seems to be underpowered compared to my friends handloads. Similar to what most factory 10mm loads are - wimpy compared to the original Norma loading.

I like the .357 sig, and will be getting a lone wolf .357 sig barrel for my Glock 23.

I cast lyman 9mm devastator hollow point bullets that will be perfect for the .357 sig over a good dose of AA#9![:)]

Love my G32. But it's not for everyone. And ammunition isn't cheap to buy. But if you can handle a .357 mag you can handle a .357SIG.

My Sig 2340 does both 40 & 357Sig very well.
Recoil is much less than my 357 mag 180gr silhouette loads in either caliber.
Accuracy is what I expect from a Sig; VERY.
My reloads are around 1420fps with the 124gr XTPs in 357Sig, and the 40 pumps the 135-155grainers almost as fast.

It'd be nice if Golck had a model numbering system that made sense, but a g22 shoots a 40, while the g17 shoots a 9?!# & the g32 shoots what, exactly?

I don't speak from hands-on experience shooting one, but have done a lot of research. everyone will tell you it is snappy. (but manageable) whenever you get a .40 that won't be as snappy as a .357SIG

if you are concerned about terminal ballistics, it won't be like a .357MAG in your particular gun. that 4" barrel will give you CorBon's advertised 1350 ft/s but that's only souped-up 9mm performance. you will need at least 1450 ft/s if not 1500 to get .357MAG out of your .357SIG. if you have a 5" barrel that ammo will probably do 1530.

CorBon .40SW 135 grain does 1350 ft/s with that same 4" barrel. so why bother? and if you are concerned about fragmentation (lightest-for-caliber bullets are prone to that) you can get CorBon 165 grain which should perform better than either of those out of a 4" barrel. (they don't make 180 grain)

since you are talking about reloading, another difference is the bullet. .357MAG has such wonderful stopping power because of the rapid violent expansion, which may be attributed to the semi-jacketed bullet of the revolver cartridge. far as I know that isn't offered in semiauto .357SIG, you get regular JHP which may not expand so fast and therefore may not be as destructive. don't know what you can do about that.

as far as follow-up shots, whacking a target with something as powerful as a .357MAG it's okay to go .05 seconds slower than you would have with a weenie 9mm. you just did the same as shooting it 3-4x with the 9mm. it's a good tradeoff.

so I would say, with that 4" barrel, you are better off with .40 or if you prefer, the faster shooting 9mm. but a 5" .357SIG certainly beats them both.

Buffalo Bore has a 125 grain load going 1430fps and 567 ft lbs out of a 4" barrel. That imo is more than enough to take care of business if you want a full power load. In my Glock 32 I carry Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain loads. It goes out at 1225fps and 450ft lbs....the same bullet weight in 9mm +p by them does 1110fps and 369ft lbs...and that round feeds 100% all the time.

yeh... it is more reliable feeding. and you won't have case head support problems like with the .40, so you can run the hottest BB ammo. you can't do that with BB in .40 and they say so on their website.

I have a 239 and absolutely love it. In my opinion the .357 is probably the best pistol cartridge developed in the last hundred years. Ballistics are close to a .357 Mag with similar bullet weights in a semi auto package. The shape of the cartridge is a natural feeder. People mention snappy recoil, do they use their wives moisturizers? It's not a cannon, but a great defense and offense caliber. Disappointed it didn't go over as well as it should have making ammo more expensive.

My former dept. went to this in the 239 after I retired. Dang it. Everybody I have talked to like it a lot.

I just bought an HK P2000sk in 40 S & W and added a 357 Sig barrel. Can't wait to try it out. The more I learn and read about it the more I like it. Recoil, from a 115 to 147 grain bullet? It doesn't exist - [;)]

Now why hasn't someone come out with a Sig 357/10mm? That would be a blast!

Like I said before I am not all that recoil sensitive. I hunt with a either a 44 mag revolver or a TC super 14 in 35 rem.

I guess it just surprised me and to me at least I find its recoil very snappy. Its like the recoil impulse difference between a M4 and an M16A2. I am not sure if I like it yet and will replace my G19 with it.

    Time will tell
