What are you willing to give up to save America

Let's say for arguement sake that the current financial crisis we face in this country is generally the fault of both parties and all classes.
We made a huge mistake when e acted with the best of intentions, on both sides.
So, what at this point, are you willing to give up to put this ship of state back to right.
JFK said "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."
What would you do for your country?
Land owners, would you agree to not deduct the interest for your vacation home?
Business owners, would you agree to pay your workers a better wage based on their performance?
Poor people, would you agree to take the first job that came along and keep looking for the dream job as you earned your own way?
Would you go to a school to learn a vocation?
Woud you volenteer to help out those who are even less fortunate than you are?
I know there are some here who are very generous and some who would be homeless witout the help the receive or earned from the government
and I am not talking about them.
I'm just really curious what we would be willing to do to help get us back on the right track, solve our deficits and live the American Dream of freedom.

I'd vote for increased sales tax--on booze-food-essentials and I'd forego income tax refund, if there was any type of assurance of the moneys end use-!!
Not a very realistic question I'm afraid !
[:o)][:o)] JIMBO
id give up some welfare slugs, the department of IRS, department of eduction, and a dozen others
All those times I felt like a sucker for not living large are paying off now.
I am willing to give out bullets free of charge to all the welfare sucking protesters when they start rioting. And if you're muslim, I'll put a free piece of bacon into your dead mouth just so you have something to eat in the afterlife.
BTW - I haven't had a raise in 3 years. It looks like this one might be number 4. I generally work 6 days a week and produce an estimated net profit of about $250,000 to $300,000 per year (after all salaries, utilities, office space, etc. are factored) on over $3 million in sales. This year, I'm already on a trend to do at least $5 million in sales.
It is not a lack of willingness by the "people" to fix this, it is the politicians that are addicted to power and corruption.
Sacrifice I have already done paid, paid and paid some more; it is the governments turn to hang itself out to dry.
God provides.
I would give up giving moneys to other countrys and tax the crap out of people making over given amount of money.
You and Obama have the same idea about punishing success. Is it jealousy spurred by your own failure? Get off your * and make some money instead of trying to rob someone else.
I would give up filling out a bunch of IRS forms for a flat tax system.

This would be very successful, and politically achieveable. IMO. A rate of 15% for all. No credits, No deductions. I still consider it theft of property, but it would get the tracks back to becoming solvent. No taxes on capitol gains or intrest either. No more 1099's. Just a simple reporting form I made X dollars and paid X percent.
Of course any tax plan also needs a spending reduction plan to right the whole thing. Otherwise we have a new tax code but the same problems.
Prior to that I am not willing to give up a single penny. Unless the government is brought under control all other measures are futile.
When the government is downsized to constitutional limits and the principles applied, and all excessive, wasteful government spending is abolished I'll let you know.
Prior to that I am not willing to give up a single penny. Unless the government is brought under control all other measures are futile.
hence the reason this current Gov is *, this will never happen, too many folks lining their pockets.
you figure it all in and we are paying around 50%+ in taxes ...no more taxes....less spending = less taxes...i am READY to give up about 80% of our worthless politicians...people with honesty & integrity elected to office would preclude most of the problems
How do we get honest candidates when it costs $50 million dollars to run a Senatorial campaign?? Most candidates have to sell their soul to someone to get that kind of juice to run a successful campaign.
No as far as helping less fortunate. if i could see the money going into a needing/non leaching family's hands so they have food on the table sure. but then i wouldnt give them a dime anyway. Drop off food once a week fine. and then watch and make sure they dont take the money they "saved" by me buying food and waste it. but i will never give away money.

I agree we need to take back our government by putting some middle class in congress at the least replace all of congress I know that would help ohh and a middle class president too, all middle class are not honest but they do know how most of us have to live it would help for a while until they forgot who put them there and where they came from, man has always screwed up everything the Lord has given us he is the leader we need to turn to

With 10,500 rich and powerful Lobbys in DC anxious to bribe politicians. how long do you think before the newbies will be like the old ones? Actually, rich ones are less likely to take bribes than poor ones. Without a structural change, There is no hope for honest government.
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!

sadly your probably right but the men who founded this nation started it the closest to right as anyone has. don't you have to have honest people in order to have a honest government, church, organazation etc. where did the honest people go?
Are you willing to VOTE? I remember how many people were saying their vote didn't count, in this past election, alot of people got out and made their voices heard. The result was, we threw out a whole bunch of liberal tax and spenders (like Wisconsin)
Are you willing to write the letters so the remaining liberal spenders from both parties know we aren't going to take this anymore?
Are you ready and willing to tell the truth even if someone thinks you're nuts or a muslimaniac or racist?
Are you willing to raise your voice in opposition, to join the protests, to give up some of your time?
Someone told me I spend too much time worrying about things I cannot change. At first I wanted to argue but then I realized I don't do anything to change it (except vote).
I will do more from now on but I can't do it by myself and neither can you. This crap has gone on long enough and we need to come together to defeat the leftists who would sell us down the river to fundementally change our country. At the same time we need to kick out the carpetbaggers who would sell us down the river to line their own pockets.
We need to constantly remind those we elected last NOV that they are on a mission so they don't let the power go to their heads or try to
join the elites, can you imagine the pressure to go along they must feel? Or the traps set for them by seasoned politicians?
I was really hopeing someone would talk about volunteering their time, mentoring a child. foregoing their social security if they don't need it (or donating it to a cause they like). Maybe taking lower paying job just to get off the unemployment rolls, paying a bigger portion of their benefits from work would help.

You seem to think the gov is the solution and the moron in DC can be reformed. Do you honestly believe the 10,500 rich Lobbys in DC are just going to lay down and let the newbies run the country?
I am not a lazy *, nor am I a failure thank you. If you mean robbing millionaires, yep that's what I meant. I am not jealous of any body or anything, thanks for your advise, if that is what it is[}:)]

You're asking the wrong question. People have an advesarial relationship with the government. The government is destroying America, not the people. The only way to save America is to destroy the government, not help it.
Amen. I'm not willing to give up anything. I had no part in it. Those with the power have ruined the nation and only those with the power can save it. The only part I had in it was my tax money was taken to use for all the things they have done to bring us to this point. They don't want to fix the problems they created. Obviously.

If you vote you are part of the problem, if you don't vote you are part of the problem. The older you are and the more years you voted, or didn't vote the more of the problem you own.
For this situtation to be fixed we must first assume ownership of the problem. We are all at fault, the older we are the more at fault we are.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes...BUT, NOT UNTIL our elected leaders are forced to play by the same rules as the rest of us! Same health care, same taxes, same pension benefits same everything. Until they are reduced to being the same common folk the rest of us are the problem will not be eliminated. THEY are the problem!
We elect them, we are the problem.

Agreed. However, I didn't elect them. They are not who I voted for.
I know
This problem is decades old. Accepting ownership is the first step to reversing the trends.

No, I have no faith in this current administration/government but I have every faith in the American way of governing provided we follow the foundations laid down in the constitution and the bill of rights.
I really don't want people to feel like I pointed them out or for others to use this thread to accuse others of being part of the problem.
I think we agree, the problem (currently) is a bloated government, that is has grown exponentially under control from both sides and that something has to be done.
If Obama was impeached today
We would still be paying for billions of wasteful fraudulent programs the past will sue us for. We will all have to give up something to straighten it out or give up everything if we don't.
We need to get china and other countries who hate us out of our economic and political system. We need to use what we produce and work the jobs that creates. We, like Rome, have gotten very used to having the best the whole world can offer because we have prospered.
We didn't prosper as the user nation we are becoming, we prospered as the provider nation we were.
We need to get back there asap...
I think that means buying American, taxing imports to the point where they are competing on quality rather than price. We need to have business owners pay a working wage because the workers they hire are worth it So, we need to invest in our children (our own children)
It is going to be a long struggle to get back to being not only the greatest country n earth (we still are) but to being a country where freedom is more than just a word and wealth isn't measured by the amount of chihuly glass sculptures we own or Krugerrands we have in the safe.

The two party system is the problem! Maybe not all of it, but a good majority of it.
True change cannot happen until the two party mentality is broken.
+1
I would give up obama if that would help
+1 and all the demograps [:D]
Fixing this country is not that hard (in theory).
Smaller Federal government means less spending.
Creation of jobs by the government was what Roosevelt did with the C.C.C. which helped this country.
Elimination of welfare states or entitlements without work production. If they want money, then have them provide something in return (this includes prisoners incarcerated).
Encouraging capitalism and punishing corruption goes miles to increase correct behaviors in all stratas of our society.
Forego aid to other country until such time as we have our own taken care of by using those monies to build V.A. Hospitals, Rehab centers, local business incentives and food banks.
Should all of this occur, I'd gladly write another "blank check payable to Uncle Sam."
