Trucker Shoots Fellow Driver Over Fuel Island Dispute
NEWS

An argument at a Love?s Travel Stop in Georgia involving two truckers ended with violence last Thursday. One trucker shot another as many as three times over a dispute that started at the pumps.

Both truckers remain unnamed, but the Butts County Sheriff?s Office gave an account of the incident. According to Sheriff Gary Long, the incident occurred just before 1:00pm at the Love?s Travel Stop off of I-75 near Highway 36 in Georgia.

Trucker #1 was at the pump when trucker #2 came up to him. The two started arguing. Some sources say the argument started because trucker #1 was taking his 30-minute rest break while parked at the pump, though TruckersReport hasn?t been able to confirm that.

During the argument, trucker #2 returned to his truck and climbed into the cab. He then held up a gun and, according to trucker #1, pointed it at him. At that point, trucker #1 opened fire on the cab, striking trucker #2 as many as three times.

When authorities arrived, trucker #2 was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Trucker #1 was questioned by police, but they decided not to take him into custody.

?Based on witness statements, the victim and the shooter, and video and audio of the incident, it clearly shows self-defense,? Sheriff Long said.

While the Sheriff?s office will not be pursuing charges, Long did note that the district attorney may still decide to make a case against the shooter.

?I think a person?s got a right to defend himself and that?s my take at this point,? Sheriff Long said. ?The guy defended himself.?
