FFL Dealer Question

This is a 1st. for me....just noticed tonight on a specific early 50's name brand pistol I purchase 3 yrs ago from a nearby gun store the young 20'ish clerk typed it on the BOS serial # 68909 that was on the grip butt when the actual # is 60689 which I found also stamped under the barrel when cleaning it (not inside the crane). Apparently he read it upside down and typed it in that way and like me didn't realize or pay attention it was upside down & that the same number was also under the barrel. Is transposing serial numbers common ? ATF violation ? .....Suggestions on handling ?

I have seen all kinds of mistakes on invoices from pawn shops and such....Shelby has logged things in from invoices and later found the invoice was wrong. We just fix our books to reflect the correct number and move on. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Its like finding a spec of brown rice in your bag of white rice.

The question is how is the serial number is listed on the 4473? You signed it. Otherwise, you can contact the store and they can correct it. It is not really a big deal.

Good to know, not wanting the dealer to get into trouble with the ATF....I guess I'm at fault too since I looked at the BOS too and thought nothing of it. I'll stop by asap and let them see for themselves....Thanks
