FrancF's post about CA rain, got me thinking about other states. Some of us have not been to certain states or regions of our country. If everyone could post a picture of something beautiful from your home state, we could all see something different. I will try to get you all a picture of our beaches this week. We also have a lot of light houses. I would really like to see what you guys project your state as looking like[:)]. You can either post a picture from a web site or one that you took. I prefer the later. It can even be a landmark or capital.Something that reminds you, of your state and why you live there.Oakie

Beautiful....been through there many times...
Kansas is known for being flat and boring, but not in this part. There are hills and rises, natural mounds, rivers, streams and wooded areas. Beautiful fields of native grass, and wheat. Corn, beans and milo. There are places where you can see ten miles from a rise, and places you can't see around the corner. Places where, if you close your eyes for a moment, you can see in your mind Indians riding over a slope. We have beautiful green grass in spring, +100 in the summer, -0 in the winter. Ice, snow, floods, tornado's, and recently, earthquakes. There is a lot of deer, turkeys, rabbit and squirrels. There used to be a lot of quail and dove, but they are not so thick anymore, although they are making a comeback. There are panthers, a few bears, eagles, bobcats, armadillos, feral hogs, coyotes out the ears, and plenty of other wildlife here. The buffalo in the picture, are not free range, but there are quite a few buffalo around, also some camels, llama's, and even some tigers. (all in captivity, though not zoo's)
SE Kansas defies the label that is put on the rest of Kansas. Not flat, not boring. I love it here. Well, maybe not so much when the weather goes to extremes!
Peace
Dan
The 2nd looks like Hells Canyon on the Snake River. Wild and majestic.
It has been years since I was at Toketee Falls. Back in my high school days a group of us went to the area for a camping trip. We even convinced the girls it would be 'rude' toward the other folks at the hot springs to not be nude. [:0][:X]
Thanks for the pics and showing what this beautiful state is all about.

Donna and I spent a week near Marshall, in Ashville. We went Horseback riding in Marshall, on a horse and bison ranch. That was some of the prettiest views I have ever seen. You sure are lucky Allen. The Mountain we were on, was the highest in NC, if I recollect. The guy that owns it, was Dan Aykroyd's, personal bodyguard. Really nice gentleman. We are suppose to get together soon. His wife and Kids are coming to visit us . Oakie
Oakie, he knows that Dan Aykroyd bodyguard guy.
Two months after I had gone back on the road in the big rig, my helper called me up. The Dan Aykroyd guy, who has the trail ride place and the buffalo herd, wanted 5 custom log cabins built. Said he had 5,000 linear feet of logs curing in a warehouse up, across the state line in Tennessee.
So I could have gone off of the road and built some cabins for this guy. And believe me, I am the right man for the job.
But I am tired of people trying to under-pay me for my work.
I told my helper to tell that trail-ride guy, I would build them, if he would pay me $45 an hour in cash.
I mean, around here electricians get $70/hour. Plumbers get $65/hour.
With all my skills I am well-worth $45 an hour and that is a good deal.
Adam told the guy my demands and I never heard back. If he found someone who would do it cheaper more power to him, I am in Laredo tonight driving the big rig.
ps He told my helper that not only was he Dan Aykroyd's bodyguard but he was using Dan Aykroyd's money to fund that operation.
