I know the 38 Super round is the BEST

Yep, the 38 Super round is THEE BEST round for a pistol.

It is more accurate and faster than a 45 ACP. It can make the 'major power' factor for various competitions. It played HELL on the tin work of 1920s-30 automobiles, so the crap produced today should be no problem.

And, it has performance/ballistics that a 9 mm Parabellum can only dream of.

Since they were making the 357 mag in a auto loading configuration with the 38 SUPER round I would agree it is a hum-dinger. I was impressed every time I shot one.

Oh crap now you went and did it, I want to go search the auction side for one.....

What Jim said. The public isn't allowed to have military calibers so no 9mm or .45acp. Both of which are vastly superior to .38 super.quote:Originally posted by 84Bravo1

About 30 or so years ago a local hardware store had a used Colt 38 super for sale.It was dirt cheap and stayed in the case for years before it sold because most people, including me either never heard of the caliber or thought it was obsolete.

Yep, I could've had a Colt Commander in .38 Super from a LGS for $200 . Owner told me it was a "wadcutter" gun.

I have tested a number of 38 super 1911 type pistols on ransom rest have never found one that would shoot as small 10 shot groups as 45ACP bulls-Eye match built pistols However the 1911 with proper barrel in 9MM fitted to slide & frame will Actually shoot 45acp size groups or even better Many 38 super pistols have been converted to 38Special for target shooting by the likes Of Jim Clark/John Giles and other pistol smiths

edit hello Doc very nice looking pistol but will it shoot a 10 shot group at 50 yards that size I THINK NOT

I like the Super. Currently have 3 of them. Factory ammo used to be a 130 at 1280 FPS but in recent years it's been reduced to around 1080. Crap. I load a 115 JHP to 1425 FPS.

    Seems to shoot OK...

    I am a 9mm largo fan...

Also like the .41 action express round.

    Mike

Best deal I ever got on a gun was a TA 90 Tanfoglio in 41 AE. The darn thing had been sitting NIB for almost 5 years in a gun store, the place had been sold 3 times over. I joked to the new owner about it sitting there for so long and he said "give me $100.00, I'm tired of looking at it". Got it & 250 rounds of ammo that came with it, bought a 9mm barrel off Numrich for about $40.00. I reload but am pretty much too cheap to shoot the AE and lose brass, so I stick with the 9mm barrel.

The .40 Super round is pretty "Bad-*", but if I am taking everything into consideration, I gotta go with the 10mm.

9mm is "better" than 38Super?! Having shot both calibers in superb guns (NOT in 1911 configuration-that might be your trouble) like a Sig 210-3 for the 9, and a Witness Match in 38Super; your perception has been tainted by the vehicle you chose.
Never used a Ransom Rest, but I'm pretty sure it won't make the ammo faster or more accurate.

So then, if I hit someone in the forehead with a 9MM he won't be as dead as hitting him with a 38Super?

I prefer the easier to handle 9MM for SD and if I thought otherwise (and I don't) I would opt for the 357Sig which is a 38Super in a much better (for practical purposes) case configuration

Sounds like its time for a Ken-L Ration commercial[:D]

.45 ACP is best, in my opinion.
