This guy is on another forum that I frequent, his logging work was slow so he decided to build a vault. What a room!

Lots of lumber in that building.

Most of the time when I drink a beer, there is a gun on my belt.

That man knew what he wanted and how it was going to be built ... great job! Appears to be very snug and secure and should be realitively wasy to heat in winter and to cool in summer.

Has he shared much of the particulars regarding the wall construction? He poured into the rigid insulation forms, right?

Appreciate his generosity with the photos and you thinking to share them as well. Thanks to both of you.

    Wow! Love it! I'm jealous.

I'm impressed. Once saw a simular vault. The owner collected nothing but Weatherby's, every model in every type of wood imaginable. With a few supplies, phone and some plumbing and exterior air source the vault could be a safe room. Simple design, well insulated, flourescent lighting, metal roof with ventilation, etc. made this home extremely energy efficient.

I noticed how he formed up the ceiling for the vault so he could pour the concrete. Innovative. The concrete forms he used for the vault walls are easy to use, provide great insulation above and below ground and with the rebar and concrete are extremely strong.

I would have considered usng the concrete forms for the above grade exterior walls. Me thinks it would make for a faster build and the interior and exterior could be finished to look exactly the same. The foam and concrete offer a virtual rot free and insect proof structure. An older brick, or stone or adobe exterior would reduce future maintenace considerably.

    INCREDIBLE!!!

That is a true "MAN CAVE". I can only hope to one day be able to build something a fraction of that magnitude just for my guns...truly a work of art![:0]

did i miss something in the pictures or did he decide not to reinforce the walls?

i wouldnt be a huge fan of plain stick walls for that sort of collection. maybe its alarmed up the wazoo and maybe he never leaves the property unattended and maybe maybe maybe. me personally, metal studs, rebarred walls etc. still able to be cut through, but not as easily.

a plain stick wall is no match for a k-12 saw, sthil ms-460 etc. ask any firefighter.

unfortunately, it's eco-bloc and that black poop in between the foam is not reinforcement bar. it's plastic. you can put the money into a nice vault door but the rest of the structure is not a vault. it's more of a good bunker!

the vaults our family built in wisconsin were unreal. and, we sure as heck wouldn't post photos of them on the internet! :)

Savage170's post shows the vault. The floor is poured concrete. The walls are foam blocks that contain vertical and horizontal rebar for strength and concrete is pumped in. The white pumper truck is shown in a couple of the pictures. The owner placed boulders around the exterior to protect against or at least seriously slow down breaking into the vault. The ceiling of the vault is concrete over what I think is plywood over metal studs supported by large wood beams. With the stong doors shown, the vault is very secure IMHO.

yeah, my first tour through the pics i only took note of the upper room which looks to be conventionally framed. i guess i missed the room below it with the poured walls and what not. yes, that would be very secure.

I would like to see a photo of the rebar being placed into the eco-bloc foam block product. the center of the blocks are always done with hard plastic inserts put there from the factory. same with other similar products. the way it is set up makes it almost impossible to put in re-bar.

    http://www.eco-block.com/

i was not there to see the construction of it but if you do have a product that you can stack with reinforcement in there which would make it an actual vault, please let me know and we can save thousands on cost and welding labor.
