Anyone remember those sets? My favorite was dead man's raft. I must have owned a few of them a few times over. All these years later I want to build and display them proper but you can't get them a anymore. The ones I had are long broken and in the land fills.

You would think Disney would put them out again with the new movies and add a new one with Jhonny dep but I guess not.

A few years ago there was a guy selling re cast sets and held the rights to do it legally. I was watching the orders on his site and forum but after a while complaints that ship time was far too long and then rumors of rip off's. The guy slit on his costomers and I never knew what became of it as he shut down the sites and the members were disbanded. I guess I am glad I did not send him pay pal for the 75 bucks he waqs asking. Some lucky guys early on got their kits.

I think originals for for 300 to 600 bucks on ebay :( Wish I knew someone who was re casting them.

at the website forums www.modelshipworld.com look under the sub forum wooden ship models then do a search using the provided bar and type in black pearl the first listing found will tell you what online retailer he got it from as well as who makes it IIRC its in 1/50th scale and is quite large.

Damn I won a Freed in the nick of time set. I feel both lucky and un lucky to have won. Lucky because I've seen this set sell for over 300 in the past but un lucky because I am going to trade 200 dollars for a model new in wrap that if I build it I will lose any resale value in.

I guess I'll sit on it and see how it feels owning it.

Of course Dead Man's raft went for 400 dollars way over what I would bid.
