Why the Next Revolution will fail.

I think the gun buy panic and profiteering show why the revolution, if we are to see another one will fail.

Recall the Movie Red Dawn, when the kids showed up at the store that sold guns before heading out of town. The shop owner freely handed out what he had in stock probably because he felt duty bound to.

Fast forward to our timeline or decade, should civil war or some sort of revolution break out the first thing that will happen is arms merchants, that is many of you gun dealers will jack up your prices.

The goal will not be securing freedom it will be making a buck.

RIP America.

Maybe I am wrong and maybe someone can show me why.

There will be a segment of society that would fight for what they believe in. If the gun merchants didn't join in, their inventory would be taken from them for the cause. Simple as that.

The paper cash would be worthless to begin with. You may end up trading food, gold, silver, toliet paper, for those guns and ammo.

I'm old and not really fit so this probably doesn't apply much to me. I think it would be entirely reasonable to kill someone and take whatever you needed. Any one of the firearms I possess would be much more capable than this one, but the principle is the same, and apparently the government thought it was feasible at the time.

I keep hearing about dealers that raised prices...complaints of gouging and such, but in my area there is only ONE dealer that raised his prices. Everyone else was just constantly out of everything. People buying things like CRAZY....there was no way to keep up with it or to make everyone happy. I think things are calming back down now. Who knows when the panic buying will happen again....but one thing is certain....it will happen again.

I agree. I bought a dozen AR type rifles thinking the re-election of Obama would be the trigger to a major surge in buying, but that turned out to be wrong. I have found I predict things terribly if I actually try to invest my own money.

In the original Red Dawn, the store owner was motivated to supply the boys because he knew them real well, and wasn't one of them his son?
Also, the scenario was invasion by Russian and Cuban forces, and they were headed into the hills to survive.

In a today scenario, I think a situation of civil unrest is more likely, and shop owners would be more motivated to protect their assets and supply their loved ones and friends, first, before anyone else. Then later, prices will be what anyone is willing to pay.

Who can say what the next SHTF scenario will be ? The projected 2013 solar flare surge causing massive electrical issues ?

    Regards,
    Chris

As an interesting historical note, the WW2 Liberator Pistol and its successor the CIA Deer Gun 20 of years later were both complete flops. There is not one account of either gun being used for its intended purpose. Most sat in warehouses until they could be disposed of.

The Allies did drop a small fraction of all the Liberators ever made over France, and gave some to other partisans elsewhere. The ammo was used when they had a gun that fit it but the guns themselves were commonly left behind as useless paperweights.

If you are a freedom fighter and you want a gun you kill one of the invaders and take his weapon and then repeat the process until your group is adequately armed. This scenario has been repeated over and over during uprisings but the classic account is the Battle Of Grozny: Chechnya was a disarmed state inside Russia but they managed to accumulate a few weapons and hide them from the Russian Secret Police. When the Russian military rolled into Grozny it was a simple matter to shoot a few Russian conscripts (who were told they'd be greeted as liberators and were riding on the outside of their armoured personnel carriers) and take their AKs and RPGs. Keep in mind that the Chechen men could all speak Russian and had all served in the Soviet military so there was no transition; they already knew exactly how to handle Russian equipment. The * was the virtual annihilation of an entire Russian motorized Regiment at the Grozny train station. The Russians were actually driven out of Grozny but of course once they brought in artillery, Helicopters and fighter bombers it was a simple matter to level the city and claim victory.

My Russian friend "Boris" stated that Grozny was 100 times worse than anything he faced in Afghanistan and retired (as a Lt. Col.) from the Russian Army soon after.

I've never seen anything like this and the implications of people's behavior escape me. If it's all gun guys taking advantage of other gun guys, it's a sad statement about our support for each other in a bad time.
I sometimes use one of the local online classified gun and ammo trading sites. Other guys who use it are starting to rethink where they are willing to meet someone to sell ammo or a firearm. You might become a target for a thief someday.
I hope we never have to find out how bad it can be. I fear it won't be Red Dawn, it'll be from our own shores and every man for himself.

Unfortunatly, I agree with you.....it will fail. We have become such a selfish and greedy society. Nobody (or should I say most), will not sacrifice for the greater good.[V]

I'm not sure you can compare rumors of a ban vs. enemy invasion force. I doubt that any shop owner who saw enemy paratroopers falling from the sky wait until you whip out your credit card before handing over guns.

The sporting goods store was owned by one of the boys father. He wasn't giving it away because of impending doom. He gave it to them to use to get the hell out of dodge. He didn't intend for them to go to the mountains and camp out, it just turned out that way with a tank road block on their way out of dodge.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. After Katrina I had many law enforcement agents come into my shop when I reopened a few days after the storm. Many were short of ammo. I GAVE many officers whatever rounds they needed until I ran out.

Well you might just be the exception to the rule! Of course the exception does not disprove the rule. [:D]

To the other guy who pointed out the guy handing the guns out was related to one of the boys, ya I knew that. It's just one example.

There was the guy who trucked in bottles of water to sell to Katrina victims, he was not giving it away and he pulled a pistol to make sure no one took without paying. He got shot and killed by someone.

Greed is killing this country at all levels and when folks try and do something others will be of no help at all. I can hear it now, wooHoo! There is a shortage of rifles at the front!!$$
