Gonna lose another molar...

Any day now. Fml. Had two great big giant cavities the dentist noticed maybe four years ago(the last time I had dental insurance). She said one of them needed to be dealt with ASAP. Like if I wanted to keep the tooth, it should be done before the weekend. I told them to figure out what my insurance would pay and get back to me. They didn't and I promptly forgot about the whole thing.

Two ish years later I'm eating lunch, bite down and feel said tooth explode. Eff eff eff. Down to the dentist. They say they might be able to save it with a root canalP, post, and crown; for 3k. Ummm.... What's plan b? Extraction for ~300. Sold!!!

Well it wouldn't appear that that other cavity that "probably shouldn't wait" is ready to go. Is starting to ache bad and I really looked at it for the first time in a long time and damn is that sucker deep. There isn't much left. It won't surprise me if I shatter this tooth eating soup.

Oh well. If you neglect your teeth, they take away one by one....

    I feel your pain, literally.
I lost my dental Ins. about two years ago.
Then the dentist said a molar that had a very deep filling needed to have a root canal to save it.
I spaced it off, and all the sudden, my dental was gone.
2 weeks ago, broke the tooth.
    $ 242 for extraction, about $ 2000 to fix it. ( yes, it's now gone )
I did make an appointment for a check up though.
I'm not going to like the prices, but I don't want to lose anymore teeth!

Around here you can have a cavity filled for about $275. If you needed it done, why not just pay cash for it if you had no insurance?

It was beyond a simple filling. There was just never a time when it hurt and I was flush with cah at the same time. If it didn't hurt, I guess I just ignored it.

    Oh well shir happens.

I also have a molar that had a cavity and i figured i would just wait till it gave me problems AND it is now giving me a problem. I am going to have it pulled out because the molar below it is gone anyway. My extractions cost about 125.00 here in ohio.

All of a sudden I don't feel nearly so bad about paying $80 for an x-ray and extraction. That's $80 total, I have no dental insurance. Sure do miss that tooth though.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

Well, I have "dental insurance", but that only means I get a discount from inflated "list price". For anything other than routine exams & X-rays, I pay a lot. Pelosi/ReidCare isn't going to help any of us.

After you have a tooth extracted, there are still options. You can get an implant, or, sometimes, get a bridge. None of these is cheap, but the alternative may be soup & soft food for the rest of your life.

I know what you mean, I did the same thing and wound up having to have it extracted. I sure do miss that tooth.

Thats why I better understand what I should have done about it before it got to that point.

Tooth implants cost around $3,400 here. I have a nephew that grew up a diabetic. He needs four or five teeth replaced. If the whole family pitches in we can replace two a year for him. I just wonder how long the implants last. Thats if he can handle the surgery part.

if you have it extracted make sure they put bone back in the hole where the tooth came from, you could get a implant later in life and there will be enough bone
