Stopped at a yard sale this morning and was ready to leave when I spotted this Item, I wasn't sure what it was apart from the obvious,
The lady told me she was asking $100.00 but since no one was interested she would sell it for $50.00 so I promptly pulled the 50 and asked her about it, and she told me this incredible story of her Fathers great grant father a high ranking insurrect being presented with it by his men, after they killed a Spaniard that had it during the Spanish American War, and that her father brought it in his Yacht when he left the Island in 1959. At first I was very skeptic of the story but after a little research I think it might be true.
I asked the lady why she was getting rid of it and she told me, just to much stuff to put away.

I'm sure it's worth 70-100$, wasn't getting sold only because there weren't enough customers going thru. put it in a pawn shop and it would sell soon enough.
I would have bought it also , I very rarely stumble on any thing great .
sad when family "treasures " have lost the sentimental connection
then again the " lady " may have just need cash more than the sword.
makes you wonder if another family member would have loved to had it and gave her the 50.00 .. but that's another debate [:D]
nice find

Ditch,, Very Good observation, I believe this one more about lost feelings for past family than the need of anything, she lives on a huge home in prime real state, so go figure.

people realize ( as most as we get older ) they can not keep every thing , and some decide to pass it on to some one who will appreciate a item and just not in a box in the attic or closet .
I some times wonder at what point my family or how far along ( next generation or beyond ) how many my items ( firearms knifes keepsakes ) will make it after I kick off . maybe a month and big auction [B)][B)]
regardless nice find and collector / display item

As people die off their stuff is not important to their family.
It's just more junk to deal with.
That's why we eat from fine bone china every day.
Bought a 12 place setting off {elsewhere} for $25.
Grandma had kept it in a china cabinet and cherished it for years and the Grand Son had no use for it.
My kids will probably do the same thing when the time comes.
$ 60.00 bucks for it , no questions asked, hell I will even pay shipping. you make a profit and everyone's happy. [:p][:p][:p]
^75.00 and I will pay shipping.[:I]
Yep, and the lady probably went and took that $50 you gave her and bought some meth with it![:(]
Maybe not she lives in hi end neighborhood in 700K home, I honestly believe she is just cleaning house.
