Scanner drivers for Windows 10

edited October 2016 in General Discussion
I have a Lexmark X5650 scanner copier printer. I use it 99.9% for scanning docs, converting to PDF files for attaching to emails, the ink has been gone for several years, I have another laser printer I use to print.

I can't find a driver for it with windows 10.

Am I going to have to get a new scanner or is there a lag in driver software that I can wait to get past.

You can try the windows 7 driver, I have had pretty good luck doing that. I have some older laser printers that helped with....

Looks like they suggest win 8/8.1 drivers ..

    http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=product&locale=en&productCode=LEXMARK_X5650&segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN#1

    http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=content&id=OS28&locale=EN&userlocale=EN

Copied this from the bottom of the 2nd link--

    Products with limited support

These products were developed before Lexmark had knowledge of the re-designed Windows 10 printing system, but will support basic printing features. Microsoft may choose, at its own discretion, to completely discontinue printing support for these products in future Windows 10 operating system updates.

Use existing Windows 8, 8.1 print drivers for the following inkjet models:

    Lexmark S815/S816 (Lexmark S800 Series)
    Lexmark Pro901/Pro902/Pro905 (Pro800-Pro900 Series)
    Lexmark Pro802/Pro805 (Pro800-Pro900 Series)
    Lexmark Pro702/Pro705/Pro706/Pro708 (Pro700 Series)
    Lexmark Pro202/Pro205/Pro208 (Pro200-S500 Series)
    Lexmark S602/S605/S608 (S600 Series)
    Lexmark S502/S505/S508 (Pro200-S500 Series)
    Lexmark S402/S405/S408 (S300-S400 Series)
    Lexmark S302/S305/S308 (S300-S400 Series)
    Lexmark X2650/X2670/X2690 (2600 Series)
    Lexmark X4975/X4950 (4900 Series)
    Lexmark X6675/X6650/X6690 (5600-6600 Series)
    Lexmark X5650/X5690 (5600-6600 Series)
    Lexmark X7675 (7600 Series)
    Lexmark X3650/X3690 (3600-4600 Series)
    Lexmark X2600/X2620/X2630 (2600 Series)
    Lexmark Z2300/Z2330/Z2390 (Z2300 Series)
    Lexmark Z2420/Z2490 (Z2400 Series)
    Lexmark X4630/X4650/X4690 (3600-4600 Series)

This only talks about PRINTER. I guess you are on your own with the scanner.
I would replace it. you can get better at a reasonable price.
I just got a canon printer/scanner (auto duplex printing) for $44 at Frys last week.

I have the same Lexmark with the same issue.

I've down loaded several "fixes", but none work.

Reloaded the original software and I get a message to download a specific file, down loaded that file and it still won't work.

It's getting old to not be able to use devices or even software every time Windows updates.

Paid over 300 bucks for a print drawing software that I can no longer use unless I spend another 300 for the update.

My Lexmark printer, scanner, copier and fax machine wont work with win 10. I asked Lexmark for help and they sent me a e-mail telling me they were not going to make drivers for my model. I was welcome to buy a new one, well now I do all my work on a old computer that is still running XP.
Just smile and say nothing, let them guess how much you know.

can that model scan something and send it as an email attachment???

That's how I have one of my older (10 yrs at least) multi function printers set up. It so old you cant find cartridges for it anymore. Luckily we had plenty on hand when we retired it from the office!

The problem there is that most email servers these days require TLS for security and that simply didnt exist when a lot of these older printer/scanners were built....

Often that is a deal killer.

Just had another thought. Dual boot, windows 7 for using the scanner.
Have you checked for any linux drivers. Linux can be run from within windows, but I am not certain about 10.
    Good luck.
