An amazing little historical record. Just imagine today stumbling across two crates containing complete P47 in some obscure warehouse.

If it were sold on Gun Broker someone would no doubt * about the high cost of shipping and handling! "I swear that I was over charge for shipping on the three ton wing crate. I know how much it should cost and I have shipped B-25 wings for less than I was charged"!

Sent that video, a wiring schematic, and a hydraulic schematic that I found on the web to my uncle at the Hill AFB Museum a few years back. They received a "Jug" that was completely disassembled, and no one had a clue where to start. It should be on display by now.

Don't know what you mean by a "few years back" Trap, but there is indeed a Jug on display at the Hill museum. Awesome bird, that.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Rocky, it was about 7yrs ago I think. Do you know if they got it air worthy? That was their original plan. The military flight gear collection there belongs to my uncle, and that's only part of it, he has the the best stuff on display in his home in Ogden.
He thinks he may have flown that P-47 on display, it was in a group of fighters he and some other pilots ferried to Central and South America after the war, that were sold as surplus. The pilots that did the deliveries, have been a great source in tracking these planes down and bringing them home.

Largest single engine fighter of WW2.

A famous story about when the head of the Luftwaffe Technical Office told Willy Messerschmitt ( a proponent of aircraft with streamlined inline water cooled engines ) that they need a plane with higher speed, greater range and a better climb rate, Messerschmitt replied, " What do you want, a fast fighter or a barn door ?"

Years later, both men were driven into a shelter in Augsberg by a P-47 attack, and the Technical Officer turned to Messerschmitt and said sarcastically, " Well, there are your barn doors !"
