Fireworks Are Legal in Georgia!

As of three days ago.
I remember when I was a kid in Atlanta in the fifties, I would go with my dad up to the corner fireworks stand and we would load up on fireworks.
Our little neighborhood really lit up with fireworks on the Fourth of July, and on many other occasions. Lots of the neighbors liked to blow up fireworks.

Then, I was about 11 years old, fireworks were made illegal in Georgia.
It didn't change much, people just went to Tennessee or Alabama to get fireworks. People still fired them up on holidays and other times just like before. I never heard of anyone getting arrested for shooting fireworks.

Most anything decent are illegal in VA. If it leaves the ground or goes bang its a no go. Not that we really enforce it, unless someone is doing something really really stupid.

I'm fine with the professional fireworks shows. These folks are trained & licensed, & they know what they are doing.

I hate treating civilians for hand/face injuries. Most fireworks today are made in China, & short fuses, improper assembly, are common. Many adults are idiots; you don't hand a sparkler burning at 2,000 degrees to a small child to wave around.

legal here, but not so much. drought condition are so extreme, fire danger preempts fireworks. most communities have banned the private use of fireworks during this RED FLAG weather time.

doesn't matter one bit here what's illegal or not. you can't shoot them off in the city but like anybody cares. nonstop we get big airbursts, loud bombs, sprinklers that roll under cars, bottle rockets bouncing off cars and houses, clouds and clouds of smoke, everything from firecrackers to firearms. a cop might drive through to see if anything is on fire or something too crazy going on. funny to watch everybody drop what they are doing and sit on the porch whistlin' Dixie like nothing happened. every year you hear fire trucks and sirens in the distance all night.

some years it was quiet, some years all hell breaks loose and me and the dog go hide in the basement. this year should be another interesting one. heard lots of fireworks in the last few days, plenty of aerial displays and bombs last night, and gunfire, one dude in particular emptied a 13 rd magazine, swapped mags and did it again. still more gunshots early this morning.

    ..."illegal"? yeah

I understand what you're saying. I live out in the sticks so it's not too bad, but 22 miles across the county where my mother lives is a nightmare.

She has to lock herself in her bedroom with the TV blasting from sundown until around 1:ooAM to keep her little pooch from having a heart attack. The azzhats that live in her development buy thousands of dollars of commercial grade fireworks, including mortars that shake the windows and whole house.[xx(]

Its funny the law took effect on the 1st. On the second I went by a vacant building that had been a liquor store. There was a construction crew working like mad to turn it into a fireworks store before Friday.

Depending on the volume and where I'm along with the type of fireworks I start to sweat and panic. Trying to sleep in Columbus, NE at night was near impossible, not becuse of the noise but trying to convince myself I wasnt on FOB Echo while under attack. Some things still bother me and multiple loud explosions continuosly causes my mind to wander and when that happens the panic attacks come.

Well I will be shooting the black powder cannon without the golf ball payload tonite. That can't be legal but it's the loudest bang on the block... Kinda sounds like Ms Ros...

God bless the freedom to blow off your fingers if your so inclined, that's freedom!

Here is a gal with a Phd to teach y'all how to use fireworks safely. See, you got your safety goggles, you got a five gallon bucket of water, and a fire extinguisher. Here are Dr. Levenstein's fifteen rules for fireworks safety. I feel confident saying that no GB forum member has ever violated these rules.

Board certified pediatrician Dr. JJ Levenstein offers important tips to protect your family from the dangers associated with fireworks. Dr. Levenstein sheds light on the increase in fires on July 4th and also stresses the importance of adult supervision.

    1. Always have a sober adult in charge

    2. NEVER give fireworks or sparklers to young children

    3. Only buy legal fireworks from a licensed seller

    4. Read and follow the directions on the labels

    5. NEVER carry a firework in your pocket or hold a lit firework in your hand

    6. NEVER shoot fireworks from a metal or glass container

    7. Keep spectators at a safe distance

    8. Always wear safety glasses when igniting fireworks

    9. Don't aim or throw fireworks at another person

    10. Never place any part of your body directly over a firework device - even when lighting

    11. Only use consumer fireworks away from homes, buildings and dry grass - on a flat, level, hard, fireproof surface, such as concrete, that is free from debris

    12. Have a working garden hose and/or bucket of water nearby in case of emergencies

    13. When finished, allow used fireworks to stand for at least 20 minutes, submerge in water, drain, place in a plastic bag and dispose outside in a covered trash can

    14. Light only one firework at a time

    15. NEVER approach or try to re-ignite a firework that doesn't light the first time

Our neighborhood sounded like a war zone last night. Nothing that rises more than 10 feet above the ground is legal, but nothing else is set off. If complaints are made the police warn you not to shoot illegal stuff while you are still on the street. I get to clean the leftovers outta my yard and off my roof today. What I dislike the most is the bullets that lodge in my shingles or go through. People confuse fireworks with firearms and shoot both in the air. What could go wrong, right? I keep threating to go on my roof the nights of the fourth and new years eve and shoot back.

last night was average. plenty of fireworks but not insane amounts. heard the occasional gunshots. strangely, there weren't any guns going off at midnight, but they all started at 1:00 and kept going to after 2:30. one dude would bust off some caps, some other dude blocks away would answer him, another dude answer him, and so on.

Bought 36 2" mortars and 18 3" mortars a month ago. They are illegal, but the county looks the other way when launched out over the lake.

This year, however, it is dry as hell and we had a 10 knot onshore breeze at 10:00 pm.

    Maybe New Year's Eve.
