Watching Have Gun - Will Travel this morning, I wondered when Richard Boone died so I looked him up and made a nice discovery: He was an Aircrew AO.
Here's the write up about him:

He joined the United States Navy in 1941 and served on three ships in the Pacific during World War II, seeing combat as an aviation ordnanceman, enlisted Naval Aircrewman and tail gunner on Grumman TBF Avenger torpedo bombers.

It's a shame Hollywood went to Hell and doesn't make decent shows anymore.

Boone was really a "Shakespearian" actor...most of the old stars served in some capacity of WW2.....except JOHN WAYNE!

I have the whole series on DVD. I was watching an episode and in the background you could see a truck traveling down a highway in the distance.[:)]

Yup a great number of old movie stars served in the military during WW2...here: http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/john-wayne/252904/john-wayne-the-world-war-ii-hero-who-didnt-serve

Wow, that article about Wayne took no prisoners. I had never seen him in such an unflattering light before.

True they don't make many westerns these days, but there are some fine series if you look beyond network offerings. Try 'Dark Matter'.

Some people served their country in uniform. Most did not, even in WWII. Among those who didn't or couldn't serve directly were people like John Wayne, who arguably did more for national morale and determination than almost anyone else. Did he serve? Oh, hell yes. Just not in uniform.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Okay, you just proved the validity of your axiom, you got anything else or have you said all you must say?

Perhaps you could save time by simply typing 'Oh Huh', and backing away from your Tactical Assault Keyboard.
