I finally broke down and bought a new-to-me lobsterboat.
I ended up with a 34' Calvin Beal design. It has a 420hp Caterpillar with 3900hrs and will do 34mph on the pin.
New name will be RAGEOUS II
I had an outboard (still do) that I started lobstering in that I named RAGEOUS

Nice looking rig!
She looks solid.
The boat is actually 10 years old and that is the original engine, barely even broken in.
That is one clean looking engine! Nice boat, where do you fish?
I fish out of Jonesport Maine.
Congratulations! Looks like its in great shape. When does the season start for you?
Last year I was in by this time, but we have had a snowier winter. I need to modify this boat a bit for my fishing and have to wait for all the paperwork to take place. I should be in by Mid-April.
The old boat I had could hold 60 traps, this one is beamier and should hold over 100 comfortably. Have heard of Calvin putting over 140 4ft traps on his own 34 Calvin hull.
WOW!! Nice boat!! [^]
CONGRATS!!!!
(I thought re-naming a boat was bad ju-ju...or is that just an old wives tale?)
old wive's tale, usually an owner won't switch names on his own boat, but when purchased they all usually get changed
Cool looking boat. That seems fast for a boat that big. I'm surprised the cockpit isn't enclosed (and heated) bet it gets cold up there.
It is a fast boat, most won't go anywhere near that speed for a workboat, but there are some up around 50-60mph. It includes a full winterback and folding hauling side door. The other owner just never used it, he was a bay fisherman that only fishes a few months in the summer.

Gee, can you catch crabs on that boat, too???[:D]
Yessah!

It only bad ju-ju if your new wife sees your new wife sees you named it after an old wife.
Nice boat.

What was the make of the old boat?

You can catch crabs on any boat if you're not careful. [:D]
How far out do you go and what depths do you set your pots? Something I have never been around, but like to know a little about everything.

Congrats.

That is quite a boat!! I always liked looking at fishing boats like that up in the many small harbors on Cape Cod.
Oh wait it goes in the water, I get it now.
Why do you need the boat? Can't you just walk out on the snow and pick the lobster up?

Traps are taken up inshore in the winter. Most people stack them in the dooryard. We have actually had flatlanders (people from away) ask when the lobsters crawl out of the water to get in the traps!

Sorry did you mean the original RAGEOUS? That was a strip-built, glassed over 18' Libby built on Beals Island. Only 2 were ever built, my brother owns the other one. Then a mold was taken off mine and several solid glass hulls have been made.
The boat I am getting out of is a 1974 Bruno-Stillman 35'. It is nice but can't take the weight and amount of gear I want to. It has several more good years before it needs work but I need expenses to make my business profitable. The Bruno has a 300hp Sisu-Diesel and can do 20+kts, maybe 24ish mph
That is a clean lookin boat,Congrats! My folks had a 25' Trojan cabin cruiser named LAGNAF [:D]
