to thinking. what would you buy if you were stupid rich? I never understood the 50 room mansions and yacths(sp?) for 1 or 2 people but I would buy a fully restored tiger or super tiger tank.

wonder what that would cost?

One of the last Supermarine Spitfires - the most beautiful aircraft of all time.

Ya know a Tiger tank would come in handy to patrol the perimeter of my 3000 acre estate. [:D] It would be awesome to have the funds to build a private military collection.

I'd buy a decommissioned silo and go town on making it livable with a state of the art shooting range [:D]

dam - already off topic (WEAPONS), but OK, I guess a silo itself COULD be a weapon....once removed[:p][:D]

Of course along with a Tiger tank would have to be 1000 rds of ammo for the main gun and 500 acres of land to drive my Tiger around on.

The Supermarine Spitfire is an awesome plane, but I would buy a P-51 Mustang with 6 .50 cal machineguns and 100,000 rds of ammo for them.

I think the military stuff is cool but I have no interest in owning any, If I were "stupid rich" I would want a Royal Deluxe Grade H&H double in 375 H&H. I thing they are around $125,000 now.

Doc, that's just pocket change. My Spitfire would cost me close to $3 million at auction on July 9th. And then something like $100,000 a year to fly it.

Had I more money than the ability to count it all in my lifetime, I still wouldn't buy a lot of big dollar military machinery. Likely I'd be a big supporter to restorers of military aircraft, ships and tanks and all sorts of cool hardware. Look for those volunteer outfits that want to bring back some fine old flying machine to it's full gleaming glory, and dump some serious cash on their dreams.

Which would earn me the sum total of a smile and a handshake and a ride once in a while.

I would enjoy the heck out of owning some smaller weaponry for my two mile deep shooting range. Some heavy machine guns would be a hoot. The odd rocket launcher. Maybe some old time cannon for the black powder enthusiasts. Certainly some Gatling Guns!

Set out some steel drums of explosive fun and invite the neighbors for a BBQ and shooting exhibition. Everybody bring yer toys!!!

Yeah, that'd be a fine way to waste a million bucks or more on ammo, food, drink and bouncy castles for the little kids each July 4th!

Of course, in this imaginary world there is no NFA or GCA or later laws and amendments to put a damper on the good times.

Yup, wallet the size of a dump truck and count the cash with a grain shovel, that'd be me [8D]

I think I'd go with the mansion and a yacht. don't know about 50 rooms but definitely luxurious. small theater with a couch, a few art display rooms, a library, billiards room, a few chairs and coffee tables next to a massive fireplace, maids and butlers, separate servant's quarters, all that stuff. really I think I'd rather get a used castle.

wouldn't spend much money on cars.

1 big boat to live on,with another of about 35' on davits to use for a tender/fishin' boat.Maybe even a little one on the 35'er for a tender...
The rest would go toward "decorations" for the boats..[;)][;)][8D]

I would have a collection of the smaller vehicles the staff cars of Germany WWII , the half tracks and smaller armored sport model trucks ? and even the armor plated IED proof (the name slipped my mind) they currently use . just to piss of the local SWAT team because they don't have one [:D]
no matter the amount of money I had I am sure I could something else to bring to my private Island be like the James bond bad guys , in the old movies I just not be threating the world [:D][:D][:D]

I'm thinking an f-6 or p-38 that is fully functional. ...a BAR. And a 1918 like my grandfather had on Okinawa.

Which the estate or the Tiger? Sadly neither, just a lower middle class schlep living on 6 acres on the side of a mountain. [;)]

I watched a show on TV where there are companies that specialize in turning decommissioned Silos into luxury homes and condo facilities.

I know a guy with a silo. The dang things leaks! Concrete is surprisingly porous. Water collects in the low places. No thanks.
I'd rather have one of these:
    2005-ford-gt-front-view.jpg

Got a ride in one once. There's not much difference between 120 and 180+. The phone poles just go by a bit quicker. [}:)]

But for military weapons, I'd like one of these:
    Machine_gun_M2_1.jpg

    Should I tell Santa?

Easier to get ammo for that than it is to find .22 LR.....
