Always keepin' the black man down.... [:)]
http://www.thedp.com/article/2017/01/james-fisher-privelege-does-not-exist-to-white-penn-professors
Last semester was honestly the worst semester I've had at Penn so far. And all because of one thing: the white professors I've had at Penn. It appears that the term "privilege" does not apply to them. Nor do they care to learn what it is.
Imagine being a black student on Penn's campus with even one of these types of professors. I had three. And each one of those professors either did not care to learn about their white privilege, or lied to me and said that they did.
Understanding their privileges to them is very different. They think that by not saying racist comments in class, they are doing good. Not knowing that that half-hearted attempt further contributes to the oppression that I experience in my predominantly white classrooms.
One of my professors, for example, constantly perpetuated these systems of oppression in class. He is a white man from the suburbs. And as the only black student in the class, I was already fearing the possibility of getting mad over something stupid that he was going to say. But I gave him a chance.
Unfortunately, he proved my suspicions to be true. There were countless times that his lack of acknowledgment of his privilege led to some of the trauma that I experienced in class. He would show images of slaves on plantations and even allow students to say ignorant comments in class.
I remember having an intense conversation after class. I basically told him that what he was doing was traumatic to me, and as someone who has experienced a lot of racial trauma in his life, I would not allow him to continue. He then used the argument that, in order to make the class a "safe space," he had to protect the voices of all students in the class.
This is where the problem arose for me. This is the same argument that #AllLivesMatter people use. They argue that everyone should be equal and that no life is more important than another, not recognizing that since we live in a society that does not value black lives, we cannot assume that everyone is on the same playing field.
That is the epitome of privilege: assuming that everyone had the same comfortable life that you did.
So, because my professor wanted to protect the voices of the white students who benefit from black oppression, the oppression unfortunately continued. It even led to me mentally breaking down in the classroom. And while trying to console me, he said, "There is no way that I could acquire the wisdom that you possess." That was exactly what I needed to hear! I think he thought that that was a compliment.
I stopped going to his class for a month. With different emotions going through my head from not only this class but from the Trump election, I did not want to step foot into another white space until I made sure that my mental health was restored.
These are the types of things that happen when white teachers do not want to acknowledge their privileges; they can psychologically hurt their students. It is not enough to be aware of your privilege. It is also not enough to be a nice person. Your niceness does not mean that you are not capable of contributing to racial systems of oppression.
It is not enough that you are sorry for the injustices caused by your people. It is not enough that you read one article on the Black Lives Matter movement because your black friend recommended it to you. It is not enough that you gave your black students extensions on their papers because Trump got elected.
The truth is, you as a single person cannot make up for the horrific things that white people have done to us throughout human history. But that does not mean that you do not have the power to stop yourself from oppressing the students that you teach every day.
You have to be invested in stopping racism and oppression every day, not just on your free time.

Talk about insane! This one takes home the trophy! It used to be algebra and geometry were required courses for those students who wished to attend college. They were considered college prep classes. Now, these same classes are considered ?racist?? Come on people! This is nothing more than political correctness gone amok!
A professor at the University of Illinois made the claim that algebra and geometry perpetuate white privilege because ?emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi? give the impression that math ?was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans.?
Rochelle Gutierrez? work ?focuses on equity issues in mathematics education,? and worries that evaluations of math skills can perpetuate discrimination against minorities, especially if they do worse than white students.
Watch Liz Wheeler, OAN News, set this virtue signaling snowflake straight. Hilarious!
Campus Forum reports:
Rochelle Gutierrez, made the claim in a new anthology for math teachers, arguing that teachers must be aware of the ?politics that mathematics brings? in society.
?On many levels, mathematics itself operates as Whiteness. Who gets credit for doing and developing mathematics, who is capable in mathematics, and who is seen as part of the mathematical community is generally viewed as White,? Gutierrez argued.
Gutierrez also worries that algebra and geometry perpetuate privilege, fretting that ?curricula emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi perpetuate a perception that mathematics was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans.?
Math also helps actively perpetuate white privilege too, since the way our economy places a premium on math skills gives math a form of ?unearned privilege? for math professors, who are disproportionately white.
?Are we really that smart just because we do mathematics?? she asks, further wondering why math professors get more research grants than ?social studies or English? professors.
Further, she also worries that evaluations of math skills can perpetuate discrimination against minorities, especially if they do worse than their white counterparts.
?If one is not viewed as mathematical, there will always be a sense of inferiority that can be summoned,? she says, adding that there are so many minorities who ?have experienced microaggressions from participating in math classrooms? [where people are]judged by whether they can reason abstractly.?
To fight this, Gutierrez encourages aspiring math teachers to develop a sense of ?political conocimiento,? a Spanish phrase for ?political knowledge for teaching.?
Unbelievable! This is nothing more than political correctness gone amok! Totally insane!
National Review responded,
Now, whenever I see stories like this, I just have to ask one question: What, exactly is Gutierrez proposing that we do? Because other than her statement that ?things cannot be known objectively; they must be known subjectively? ? apparently, a suggestion that additional focus, respect, and grants should be given to nonmathematical fields ? I?m not really seeing one.
This is particularly true when it comes to her statement that math curricula ?emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi? makes math seem too Greek and European. To me, it seems like the decision about what to teach in mathematics should be based solely on the standard of what will be most important for students to learn in order to succeed.
From the Daily Wire:
In a joint statement released last year, two organizations, TODOS: Mathematics for All and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) said ?social justice? is ?a key priority in the access to, engagement with, and advancement in mathematics education for our country?s youth.?
?[A] social justice stance interrogates and challenges the roles power, privilege, and oppression play in the current unjust system of mathematics education ? and in society as a whole,? reads the lengthy missive.
NCSM and TODOS went on to assert that, historically, math has perpetuated ?segregation and separation? since ?mathematics achievement, often measured by standardized tests, has been used as a gate-keeping tool to sort and rank students by race, class, and gender starting in elementary school.?
?Citing the practice of ?tracking,'? notes Campus Reform, ?in which pupils are sorted by academic ability into groups for certain classes, NCSM and TODOS argue that ?historically, mathematics and the perceived ability to learn mathematics have been used to educate children into different societal roles such as leadership/ruling class and labor/working class leading to segregation and separation.'?
The statement continues, lamenting the notion that students must ?master the basics? before tackling complex problems:
In practice, children placed in ?low? groups experience mathematics as an isolating act consisting of fact-driven low cognitive demand tasks and an absence of mathematics discourse opportunities. This is because of a pervasive misguided belief that students must ?master the basics? (e.g., know the times tables or ?basic facts?) prior to engaging with complex problems solving.
NCSM and TODOS are also deeply concerned about white teachers in classrooms comprised of mostly minority and immigrant students.
?The groups also bemoan the ?white and middle class? workforce of math teachers, fretting that it may not appropriately ?reflect? the demographics of the communities in which they teach, such as immigrant or racial minority communities,? notes Campus Reform. ?Social justice could be the key to solving these issues, they say, calling on math teachers to assume a ?social justice stance? that ?challenges the roles power, privilege, and oppression play in the current unjust system of mathematics.'?
Addressing the grievances listed in their statement, the organizations plan on hosting a free webinar, opening to the public a hearing called ?A Call for a Collective Action to Develop Awareness: Equity and Social Justice in Mathematics Education.?
Where has the world come to? I?m so sorry, but kids do NEED to master the basic facts before they can go onto things like algebra and geometry. That?s a fact. As a former mathematics teacher, almost every teacher that has ever taught math would tell you the same thing too!
Talk about a dummy down society! When you stop teaching the basics and don?t require kids to know their simple addition, subtraction and multiplication facts ? you have big problems. Aren?t there enough kids who work retail, who don?t know how to give the correct change anymore, without a digital cash register thinking for them? Come on people! This is NONSENSE!
This is reprehensible for our schools to do this! It goes along with schools not teaching cursive writing. Public education used to be quality. Now it?s a joke.
Next they'll be claiming education as a whole is racist because minorities are incapable of learning.
Next they'll be claiming education as a whole is racist because minorities are incapable of learning.
And why would any form of Media give this the time of day.
She should ask herself this one question...."Where would the human race be today without mathematics?"
Maybe she should ask if the welfare folks can count. Hell just send them a check with no zeros after a 1. I think some of them have very good math skills ... they know grams, kilos , pounds, to sell dope.
Where do these * come up with this stupid poop.
Next they'll be claiming education as a whole is racist because minorities are incapable of learning.
It must be because the dropout rate, particularly in the big city urban areas is much higher than the burbs and smaller cities.
There is also "reverse privilege" the DEMOCRATs and their media and academia sycophants are silent about: The societal parasites that are living quite well on a plethora of overgenerous entitlements paid for by those who complete their education.
She should ask herself this one question...."Where would the human race be today without mathematics?"
For one the pyramids would be rectangular in shape and it would be impossible to precisely place the shaft(s) within the structure to allow the spirits to exit at the correct angle, in the correct direction.
Also a majority of the people would believe the world is flat. They might think it's round but would never know because a view from space would require someone to be there and only GOD's have that capability.
Surveyors would be the super privileged class and would have the power to change their skin color.
GPS would stand for Go Pound Sand and Pi would assuredly be round.
Why is it these people complaining about White Privilege don't understand it makes them look like a bunch of FOOLs?
Modern technology using a small robot with camera has showed us that these shafts are not straight through and include angles and enclosed doors within them. (not necessarily spirit escape hatches). This still applies as to the skills needed in math and geometry . Perhaps even more so.

Among a host of other things. Damn.....maybe I am racist.
Are we to believe Algebra and Geometric formula were written on the cave walls?
No Silly, AL Gore invented them, they have always been on the Internet.
Because it's helps show and demonstrate to so many what a lying bunch of scumbags they are. Crime sections are loaded with the 13% hot poop mess 24/7
Kneel for a couple dead criminals while your own kill 1000's on one democrap plantation alone - Chicago.
The demonrat party is history without the morons, criminals and vote fraud.
Numbers PROVE the black demonrat mess- that's why the crybabies now claim math is racist. NO it's NOT racist - ya all are just the dumbest trash on the planet.
