Peacock bass, Pythons and now I guess they have Monkeys. The article says there has been a wild population of monkeys in Fl since the 1930's[:0]

They have been here for decades, I wish they would go back to their native Chitcago.[:D]
We have a bunch of pavement apes in Milwaukee and Green Bay here in Wisconsin![:D]

I was just thinking about other invasive species like those jumping carp up north.
You are right they can be an invasive species.
There was one monkey here in the Tampa Bay area that they tried to catch for three years, I think that he may still be at large.
Wild monkeys aren't unusual here at all. When I was a kid growing up in Daytona my Dad used to feed one in our back yard that came for about two years.

I also heard about a COBRA snake escaping a few weeks ago in that wonderful tropical paradise![:0]
Yea,..that was here where I live. They made a lot more out of it than there needed to be, and it had nothing to do with Florida. It had to do with a knucklehead with a wildlife permit to keep snakes. That happens everywhere.
As bullshot says, there are rhesus monkeys all around Silver Springs and the Silver River. I've seen them numerous times.
South Florida is also inundated with many South American birds particularly parrots

Peacock bass = large, aggressive Fighting fish!!
It seems to me that if this true and the population of the peacock bass is sufficiently large enough, you could create, advertise and support a new type of fishing tournament specifically aimed at Peacock bass only. I guarantee you that with the proper permits, the population of Peacock bass would be under control almost immediately.
Fishing tournaments are uniquely popular not only with the fishermen but the sponsors as well who are looking to create the next new advertising windfall. Who knows? It might be just the right market to save ESPN from its downfall...
Best.

I was stationed in Panama for 4 years and the fishing in Lake Gatun is incredible. It ruined me for fishing in the states.
My Dad came down to visit me and I took him fishing, he could not believe how many Peacock Bass we caught.
In FL they have them in the water ways. They don't get as large as a large mouth bass but they fight more and strike hard.

They've done a number on S.St Petersburg too.
Come to think of it... everywhere they squat is a pile of poop.
Then they fling it everywhere else too.
I've heard there was a breeding population of Nile crocodiles as well?
We have salt water crocodiles in south west Florida but they aren't Nile's.
Florida is the only place on earth where crocodiles and alligators live in the same place.
