ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Did you know you could get fined for heating up your car? One man's parking ticket has gone viral, with thousands of views after he was ticketed for heating up his car in his own driveway.

Taylor Trupiano says he's still shaking his head over a parking ticket he got on his own property.

"I thought it was some kind of joke at first, and then I was thrown back by it," he said. "I was really surprised."

The ticket was for leaving the keys in the ignition with the motor running and no one around. Trupiano said he was only doing something many people in Michigan do during the winter.

Added, not illegal in Michigan, city ordinance for CASH generation. Just wonder why ticket the car owner how about busting a cap into those that steal cars....Getting rid of car thieves seems like a logical LEO responsibility.

"Unattended Vehicle" law took effect state wide here in WV on July 1st 2016. You can not leave any vehicle running anywhere unattended (with out a drive behind the wheel).

One of our recently forced to resign town clowns use to spend 2/3 of his shift parked at the local 7-11 the day after the law took effect. He would write ticket after ticket for "Unattended Vehicle" for about two weeks. After the 7-11 Manger caught the Mayor out and came very close to kicking his * for the cop was hurting business. The cop found a new place to sleep patrol.

My truck has auto start, it is a diesel. I can leave it running turn the ignition off take the keys, leave the truck locking it.

If you break in and touch the brake accelerator or try to put it in gear it will shut off. The alarm will also sound.

Will that still get me a ticket in WV?????

    Yes it can.

West Virginians are not allowed to leave their motor vehicles running unattended. By law, a driver must turn off the car, lock the ignition, and remove the key. Leaving an unattended motor vehicle running is a misdemeanor and carries a first-offense fine of up to $100."

If you get caught leaving your car unattended more than once might cost you up to $500.

At this time the Hitler comparison can be invoked. This gives police a bad name. Should have gave the guy a seat belt ticket also.

So I am guessing this does not apply to First Responders or the USPS.

As an EMT, I never turned off the truck upon arrival at scene. It went into High Idle mode while we worked on the patient.

Cops routinely leave the patrol vehicle running while they ticket a driver.

USPS leaves their truck running while they deliver to the house or business.

Stupid rule in my mind, especially if there is remote start.

Same rule in many parts of Maryland. If the keys are in the car, it can't be unattended. Remote starts are allowed.

Go to court and ask if his vehicle was running while writhing the ticket.

Never saw a USPS driver get out of their vehicle without turning it off and locking all the doors.

I will admit I have seen a few not place the wheel "cock" at the wheel.

I wonder how that will work with those new driverless cars coming out.

Around here you can't even take your pet sheep into a bar!

It is a city ordinance but I call it blatant discrimination against our wooly friends. The local powers that be are making it pretty hard to write up to date and truthful, honest jokes without having to make stuff up these days!

Believe me when I tell you a story about a sheep that walks into a bar.....It's just more FAKE NEWS[B)]

Cities -towns-counties are broke jokes. They are raising revenue any way they can. Fines in 2 counties by me have increased 50% in 2 years.
Judges have become revenue agents for crooked corrupt government.
