I Get the Random Drug Test

I just got an email from dispatch. When I get to Laredo tomorrow morning I have to take the random drug test.

No, I have nothing to fear, not to say I have never smoked anything or popped anything, but not lately. Not for years, I want to keep my job.
It is possible that someone dropped a dime on me, I know of another guy in my company who got ratted out and had to get tested, twice! But the rat was a dumb * because that guy was not doing anything illegal he cleared both tests.
These tests are a part of the job, not sure if they are mandated by the feds, or by the insurance company. I have been here six years and this is the first time I have been tested.
I had/have nothing to hide so never was a big deal for me. Some of the other guys in the shop? They sweated it every year.
Our company uses a 3rd party lab. We do not pick the candidates for testing- they do. If you fail or refuse test, Federal regulations require us to remove you from any safety related occupation- which includes driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
For those that have not peed in the cup- you can bust a test by testing positive for drug use and not being cleared by the Medical Review Officer- or by producing a urine specimen that is the wrong temperature (like a bag of pee in your pocket that will be too cool) wrong density (Dude, that is water!) or has a drug test blocker in it (Don't care what Tommy Chong says, they DO test for that)
Last 2 years I have 2 drivers positive, one applicant tried to beat the test (and failed). If you think weed is the only thing we run into, you don't get out much.
Whether you agree or disagree with drug testing, if what you do for a living involves driving 90,000 pounds of truck, a locomotive, towboat, nuclear reactor or airplane, it is part of the job.
The other impact is increasing stigma around both welfare and drug use. It can increase the shame people feel around applying for welfare benefits in the first place, which could drive them away from getting assistance they may need to get by.
Drug testing for many workers is required across the nation. Welfare, believe it are not, ONLY 15 states.

Drug use can be really bad for workers, but not so much for welfare recipients,, once they get past the STIGMATIZED part.
