trouble fueling

I bought a used car two years ago. The last six months or so I have had a hard time filling it up. Pumping gas goes fine till about the last three gallons. It's seems the air doesn't leave the gas tank like it should and forces gas back out. It's not as bad if you pump really slow. It had been backed into on the opposite side and previous owner fixed it if that would matter. It just recently started and hasnt done it the entire time Ive owned it.

Any ideas or suggestions on what I can do besides planning for twenty minute fill ups. Lately Ive just been filling up til it cuts off the first time and not completely filling up.

Any chance something in the trunk shifted and damaged the vent tube/hose?

Yes the vent tube has a issue...

Some vehicles have a evaporative emission vapor vent tube that can clog. I just got the notice for my 2015 Nissan.

Do a google search for your specific vehicle and fueling problems. If it's a chronic problem there are sure to be posts about it. My 2007 F250 had a problem taking fuel at normal rates. I found the solution this way. My wife's 2008 SRX had a problem starting after fueling. A search found a common problem and the fix was cheap.

You might also consider a problem with the "air/fuel canister" ? If I called it by it's correct name. It is a round plastic canister that generally is located under the hood. hoses running in and out.

That gave the problem you describe on my Hyundai .
