A dog is on loan from God and eventually He always wants it back.

I definately count my dog as a blessing and a gift in my life.

    He definately owns me. [:0][B)][:D]

Aside from having to go in his crate, while I am at work, (which he does so willingly.) he leads the life of Riley. Has it made. I should be so lucky.

Doc, are you saying you lost your friend???

    If so, my condolences,,,,,,,

I was wondering the same. If so, (as Forge stated,) my condolences. If you love your dog, they become like kids to you.

I couldn't agree more, but there's a few cats that fall into that category as well.

Second one in seven months. I am devastated. She would have been 18 in February but I still wasn't ready.

It came to me that every time I lose a dog,
they take a piece of my heart with them.
And every new dog who comes into my life
gifts me with a piece of their heart.

Maybe if I live long and well enough
all the components of my heart will be Dog,
and then maybe I will be able to offer love
As pure and completely as they do.

Damn Doc, sorry for your loss. Even though it seems as if we?ve lost them they never really leave. They always remain in our hearts. My deepest sympathies.

Condolences to you, Doc. I lost my own 18-year-old Lab in early autumn. She was old and worn out but still my good ol' pup.

Doc, condolences to you and yours and may your dog RIP. Almost 18 years is a pretty good run but, like you said, we're never ready when the time comes.

I am my dog's pet human, it even says so on his tags. His tags say "my pet human is lost, could you please call him for me" with my phone number[:D]

I'm sorry I hadn't realized that you lost your best friend. I know your heart is filled with sorrow, but rejoice in the fact that you will one day be reunited with your best friend.

    RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sad that God didn't make our best friends to last our entire lifetimes.

I have loved and lost quite a few of my four legged friends and it sure doesn't get any easier as time goes by!

Doc, I sure hope you find that special spot in your heart filled soon with another special buddy!
