following ricci's topic. i remember after katrina i felt like i was the last guy in south mississippi to get power. my neighbors across the road had power 10 days before i did because theirs came from a different feed. i was running my generator as little as possible but still that was a lot and i was running low on gas. i have a well so i needed elect. to have water. went down the road to a friends junk yard and syphoned gas from junked cars to keep things going. a lot of people dont understand how much gas a portable generator can use. they go out and buy these large generators thinking they are going to run everything in their house, but not for long. i ran my smallest gen and shared time with the frig, the freezer the well and at night a small window air cond for sleeping. food was not a problem, wife was LDS and we had a good supply. but we survived and now we can tell stories.

When the fires went through Alpine CA, I parked the diesel generator halfway between my house and my parents house. Ran it 8 hours a day for a week, but never had to refill the tank.

Our power was off last month for 5 days due to a strong storm. My 7500 watt generator ran continuous night and day. I had to fill the 5 gallon gas tank every 12 hours.
