NFL protesting the flag

Ret. Marine Col. Jeffery Powers wrote to the NFL commissioners the following:

Commissioners,
I?ve been a season pass holder at Yankee Stadium, Yale Bowl and the Giants Stadium.

I missed the ?90-?91 season because I was with a battalion of Marines in Desert Storm. 14 of my wonderful Marines returned home with the American Flag draped across their lifeless bodies. My last conversation with one of them, Sgt. Garrett Mongrella, was about how our Giants were going to the Super Bowl. He never got to see it.

Many friends, Marines, and Special Forces Soldiers who worked with or for me through the years returned home with the American Flag draped over their coffins.

Now I watch multi-millionaire athletes who never did anything in their lives but play a game, disrespect what brave Americans fought and died for. They are essentially spitting in the faces and on the graves of real men, men who have actually done something for this country beside playing with a ball and believing they?re something special! They?re not! My Marines and Soldiers were!

You are complicit in this! You?ll fine players for large and small infractions but you lack the moral courage and respect for our nation and the fallen to put an immediate stop to this. Yes, I know, it?s their 1st Amendment right to behave in such a despicable manner.

What would happen if they came out and disrespected you or the refs publicly?

I observed a player getting a personal foul for twerking in the end zone after scoring I guess that?s much worse than disrespecting the flag and our National Anthem. Hmmmmm, isn?t it his 1st Amendment right to express himself like an idiot in the end zone?

Why is taunting not allowed yet taunting America is OK? You fine players for wearing 9-11 commemorative shoes yet you allow scum on the sidelines to sit, kneel or pump their pathetic fist in the air. They are so deprived with their multi-million dollar contracts for playing a freaking game!

You condone it all by your refusal to act. You?re just as bad and disgusting as they are. I hope Americans boycott any sponsor who supports that rabble you call the NFL. I hope they turn off the TV when any team that allowed this disrespect to occur, without consequence, on the sidelines. I applaud those who have not.

Legends and heroes do NOT wear shoulder pads. They wear body armor and carry rifles.
They make minimum wage and spend months and years away from their families. They don?t do it for an hour on Sunday. They do it 24/7 often with lead, not footballs, coming in their direction. They watch their brothers carted off in pieces not on a gurney to get their knee iced. They don?t even have ice! Many don?t have legs or arms.

Some wear blue and risk their lives daily on the streets of America. They wear fire helmets and go upstairs into the fire rather than down to safety. On 9-11, hundreds vanished. They are the heroes.

I hope that your high paid protesting pretty boys and you look in that mirror when you shave tomorrow and see what you really are, legends in your own minds. You need to hit the road and take those worms with you!

Time to change the channel.

Powers originally sent his letter to former Florida
congressman Allen West. West then posted the letter to his news website.

As of last week, at least 18 NFL players had protested
the anthem by either kneeling during the anthem or
raising their fists, according to USA Today Sports.

Shame the overpaid NFL Commissioner making upwards of 49 Mil a year lacks the acumen to do the one thing needed to do...

Exactly what I have been during for years for all professional sports.

I have to admit I do not understand how someone pays money to millionaires that they have worked hard to earn and give it to someone who will never contribute in a meaningful way to make our life better by inventing a new product or curing a disease.

Let's be honest. So 18 players acted like scum. Have you counted how many stand respectfully with hands on hearts? You'd boycott those - the great majority - because...?
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

    I understand and appreciate the feelings in the original post;
But I also agree with Rocky's post above.
Just as you wouldn't/shouldn't judge all gun owners by the actions of a misguided one,
You shouldn't judge all pro athletes by the actions of a misguided few.

I do not disrespect the other players. I just don't want to spend my hard earned money supporting millionaires was my meaning. If anyone else wants to give their money to millionaires that is fine with me.

I work with many amateur sports events and that is where I choose to spend my money.

Too many thugs and criminals playing professional sports, I'll stick with supporting youth sporting leagues and hope they choose academic studies over sports careers.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I haven't watched Football in years.

    Too much BS

I would rather watch a Tarzan movie

Good letter though and I agree.

The one thing these CEO's and Bigshots need to understand is that there is a silent majority, who work, pay taxes and purchase things. This silent majority is getting fed up with these anti-American, whiners.

So when Starbucks and Camp world and even the NFL start to get hurt they need to only look in the mirror to so why, they choose the wrong side.

They sided with the punks and you reap what you sow.

Seems he is addressing the owners and management that are condoning this type of behavior while their employees are on the clock. Would you spend your money with a company that allowed their employees to openly display this type behavior while you were conducting business?

Even though most employees do not participate in, or agree with, the behavior doesn't change the fact the owners and management are condoning it.

owners will do nothing...its all about the $$$$$$, the POS bring in..and if they dont have very good POS ..

they cant bring in $$$$....its the "popular" players doing it

....not the ones that only make a couple million a year.....

its the ones that make 50 mil over a 3 year period...so what if they get booted ..

they can live a life of Riley if they invest what they have made properly...but most of em aint that smart

Well, I didn't give up on Gun Broker when there were some outspoken gun grabbers and racists on the forum. Won't give up on my team just yet either.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

What are the specific reasons for doing this? They have a right to protest the same as we do but we should find out what they want or expect to change. We should all be sickened by Washington and Trump. What are you doing to correct Washington?
