Joked with the local Garden store, when I bought all my Veggies the other day, "guaranteed we will get another frost freeze."

Yep. High today, 45. Low tonight, 29-32.

Gotta bring em' all in tonight and tomorrow to protect from freeze/frost.

Aaarrgghh..........

    No big deal.

Got all my seedlings (about 45-50) Variety of Heirloom tomatoes, variety of Peppers, cucumbers, etc.

    Brought in just now.

Small fire going in the wood stove, since last PM.

Was supposed to work today, but got a reprieve at last minute.

Would have been 4 straight. Worked last 2, scheduled for next Sat.

SO, happy to be off today, slept in till 7am, fire going, spending quality time with the dog.

    It's all good !!

    Loving my 2_day weekend.

Rule of thumb here don't plant until Memorial Day weekend.

My dog makes sure I'm up by 4:30 whether I work or not. He's a creature of habit, and needs to go outside to do his thing and get fed. Then he goes back to bed and I'm stuck wide awake for the duration[V][V]

Mine finally go in the ground tomorrow. For awhile I was considering rice. We just got about a four day reprieve from the monsoons.

Before retirement, I was a retail greenhouse grower\seller for over 30 years.

Bought the business from my father and sold it to my son.

I grew over 30 varieties of tomato's every season.

Most popular hybrid's in this area of the north have changed over the years from "Fireball", "Wisconsin 55", "Early Girl", "Jet Star", "Celebrity", "Big Early", and most recently, "Big Beef".

Big Beef is IMO the best full flavor, full sized fruit to come along and has great built in immunities to most of the plant diseases around! It is also quite early for it's size.

Heirloom varieties around here in northern lower Michigan are mostly quite late but with advanced plants started in a greenhouse most can be grown to maturity.

The #1 best seller has always been "Brandywine".

For container growing and full sized fruit I recommend "Celebrity", which is a determinate variety.

Saw several that you mentioned Brookwood. Did not have any personal experience with them, so passed. May pick a few more up on your recommendation.

I managed a commercial Greenhouse for two years, when I moved down here. No Veggies though. I kept telling the Owner, he was missing out good business.

Pretty sure I made the Title of this thread (Garden News,) not Garden Noise. Damn Auto correct.

    I appreciate your input Brookwood.

I can not put my pots on the wrap around deck now, due to new dog. (He is a digger.)

We now have a Sow Black Bear and 3 cubs, tearing up things in the yard. I'm in a quandry where to put my Veggies now.

I'll find out what I've planted in about a month when the local farmer's market opens.

Hopefully it a lot of beets. Love those June beet greens.
