I have a Marlin 1898 shotgun that I'm going to list on the other side. It is missing a few small parts, the butt stock is broke and the action moves but the hammer won't fall since it is probably all gummed up inside. All in all it is a pretty complete gun, but in its current state it is non functioning. So my question is whether to list it under guns or parts? I realize that it needs to go to an FFL or C&R so that makes no difference. Thoughts?

I would list it under firearms the same way as any other shotgun....and add "parts gun" to the title line of the description.

Post a link when you get it listed.
It sounds like something I may be interested in.

That was my first shotgun as a teenager when I first started hurting
    game.

Did not have enough money to buy box of shells, bought the shells few at a time from Hardware store. High brass 6's and 71/2's for ducks and 00 buck for the larger stuff. Did not waste any shells and tried to get more than one varmit or animal in one shot.
Did a snap shot (high brass 7 1/2) on 3 flying ducks one time and got all three in one shot. My buddy just stood their with his mouth open.
When I cleaned the ducks each of the 3 ducks had only one shot to the head or neck.
Dad later sold the gun for like $5, said it was unsafe because I had lost one of the screws that held it together.
I think I seen sometime back where Marlin did a recall on the Marlin 98's or do not use until something was checked by a competent gunsmith.

Replaced the Marlin 1898 with a Model 12 Winchester pump with pea pickin and hay haulin hard earned money as a teenager (the model 12 holds 7, 2 3/4 inch shells with the plug removed and I can hold down the trigger and shoot it faster than a auto) and it's still in use today, runs like the energizer bunny.
I had a cutts compensator with interchangeable tubes installed right after I bought the Model 12 and made a one shotgun that does it all. Have other shotguns but the old Model 12 Win still my favorite for fit and useage. Can't forget the old Marlin 98, it took lots of severe teenager abuse before being retired. Killed my first coyote with the old Marlin 98, 00 buck at about 60 yards while he was being run by my Hounds. Think the coyotes ears brought $5 bounty.
