I know Bert is out of touch for a while so maybe somebody can help me out. I have purchased a 1885 32 40 made in 1911 and would like to know what ammo I should use in it. I know these old 85's can handle a lot but I do not know if I can use modern ammo in it

That said, a high wall should handle any proper 32-40 loading.
A 1911 vintage high-wall will handle any properly loaded 32-40, black powder or smokeless.
