hello, I have a Remington model 1900 double barrel in 98% condition. super solid, super tight! was going to let a friend borrow it for deer hunting. will it be safe to shoot with modern 2 3/4 inch buckshot? thanks

I wouldn't do it. Could be Damascus barrels.

870's and 500/590 are cheap especially used.

Better patterns are with cylinder or even improved cylinder.

i have a 12ga remingtom model 1900 with 32" steel barrels and proofed made in 1906 that i shoot at old timer days at our trap range(i even shot a 25-25 with it) and i would not be afraid to shoot a few rounds of buckshot in it. if your gun is in good condition i say it will be ok,but have a gunsmith check it out first. according to T.S. uncle albert, one of the i don,t give a crap crowd.

I shot trap with a steel barrel L.C. Smith Hammer Gun all one summer .
I would have no qualms about some buck shot 2&3/4 inch in yours

Do you know for sure the gun takes 2 3/4" shells? Most of those old

Remington 1900's took 2 5/8" shells back in the day.

You have a $1500.00 dollar gun that you are lending to a buddy in 98%

condition, and what will you say when it comes back in 89% condition.

    just my .02 cents

I love the old Doubles have quiet a few. thorhammer is right 2 5/8 chambers if original and a 98% 100yr old gun to a friend for shooting deer. That friend better look like Sandra Bullock 20yrs ago and be willing to return the favor [:p]. Otherwise give your friend a hundred dollars tell him to go buy a NEF single shot 12ga and you will still be friends.
